    HSC replacement and GFOS..

So my wallet containing all my normal junk and my Handgun Safety Certificate decided to take a swim this past weekend while hunting, but I was able to retrieve it but my HSC was ruined. According to the DOJ website this is the process for obtaining a replacement:
    12. If I lose my Handgun Safety Certificate (HSC) can I get a replacement?
Yes. A replacement Handgun Safety Certificate (HSC) is available only through the DOJ Certified Instructor who issued your HSC. The HSC replacement cost is $15. The replacement HSC will reflect the same expiration date as your original HSC.

So I go to Guns Fishing and Other Stuff where I was issued my card originally a couple years ago. I spoke with the guy who was giving the HSC tests out and he had NO knowledge of how card replacement works and claimed they do not keep record of the cards they issue, and sent me upstairs to speak with a manager. The manager told me she could not issue a replacement because she couldn't read the expiration date of my current card and sher couldn't look it up because they don't keep record of cards issued. After going back and forth with her a few times about what is stated on the DOJ website she sent me to speak to yet another manager. He told me that he DOES keep a record of cards issued but its in no particular order, he said its a large cardboard box and they throw the info in there and stash it away. He said if I want him to look for my info he would charge me $25 an hour until he finds it!!!
Hahahaha, we went back and forth a few more times before I just said SCREW IT. Ive always hated this place and they will never see another cent of my money. Sorry for the long post but I just wanted to let others know.

Are you sure you don't qualify for some type of exemption? Active duty and retired military personnel, those with a LTC and others are exempt from the HSC.

you can basically look at the card costing $5/year. if the card was issued 3 years ago, it would be cheaper in the long run to just spend $25 and get a newly issued HSC good for another 5 years. only if the card was issued less than 2 years ago does it really make financial sense to get a replacement card.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

People still actually go to this place? I mean, I used to go there because the range was cheap. I then realized that their new range officers are dicks. I'd much rather go to Centermass. Even though it's a little smaller in terms of range size and firearm selection, they are much friendlier with much better service. Plus the range at Centermass has better lighting.

You only need the card to be current to make a purchase right? You do not have to maintain one as long as you own a handgun do you?

I agree. And I already replaced my card elsewhere. But the point of it is they should have record and they want to charge me $25 an hour for their time to look through the records they keep on top of the $15 replacement fee. They offer nothing but sh!#ty service and they have sh!#ty attitude on top of that. I just wanted to share another "GFOS bad service" experience
              .

^ QFT. I made the mistake of going to the GFOS range on a weekend a long time ago. One of the guys at the counter had horrible BO. On top of that, the people coming to shoot seemed to be made up of novice and inexperienced shooters. I was really worried about having to deal with someone who just had an accidental discharge or worse.

Their staff at the store itself isn't that much better. They are rude and condescending.

I may be incorrect but I was under the impression we would be needing Firearms Safety Certificates now?

Edit: I don't mean immediately, but in the near future.

FSC's come online in 2015, but if you are buying a handgun in 2015+, your HSC is still good for that until it expires.

You dropped your wallet, and lost something that did not need to be in the wallet. Your share of the blame is 95%, the store's is 95% of the remaining 5% (since the State is using them for bookkeeping).

                        Lesson learned, right?

why wouldn't it be in my wallet? I might just decide to walk into a gunstore on a whim and buy a handgun today. If I leave the HSC at home, I wouldn't be able to buy that handgun that I decided I needed.
