SP2022 Issues

My glock 26 was a mess for the first few range sessions.

Mayyybe it was the ammo. Mayyyybe I limpwristed it.

I'll never know, because after I left it with the slide locked back a day or two I didn't have any more problems.

I don't worry much if a gun has problems when brand new.

Evidently Calguns folks guns work 100% out of the box, but mine always require a little break in.

So I took it to the range today. It isn't me. I rented a P220 and went through 50 rounds without a hiccup.

The 2022 FTL'ed on the first shot by the rangemaster. He put some oil in the rails and it became better. I actually got through a mag without failures once, but still lots of FTL's. The slide is locking back now.

Range guy told me to take it apart and put hoppes all over the rails. I'll give it another **** Sunday.

Last week I rammed 550 rounds through my new 2022, Stripped , cleaned and lubed it before it's first fire and a quick clean at 250 rounds, jumped back in my lane and kept going. Only two FTf , and those were both mine fault, ****ty placements in the mag.

I have ventured a guess.... ****ty ammo, or ****ty cleaning.
As stiff as my .40 cal 2022 is ... It's impressive

While I wouldn't say the 220 is the best handgun ever, I will say that it is a fine handgun that should be mentioned in the same breath as other fine handguns at the top of the charts, I agree that trying to compare the 220 and a 2022 is like comparing plain water to a fine 20 year old scotch.

If you drink scotch, you'll know exactly what I mean.

B. The rangemaster shot my SP2022 and immediately got a FTL

I'm willing to conclude that it's not me limpwristing. It may be my '****ty cleaning'. So, Saturday, I'll make sure I'll put Hoppes 9 on the slide rails, liberally, and see if that makes a difference on Sunday.

But yeah, I really enjoyed the P220 a lot. It took a lot of mental muscle to stop after 50 rounds.

There is no way to compare P220 with SP2022. P220 is heavier and it is not sensitive to wrist limping. I have both and never had any issue with any, unless I was doing wrist limping in purpose.
All polymer framed guns require different technique to hold the gun.
Co-worker has SP2022 USA made and he had similar problem. We figure out that extractor wasn't made per specs. It is very easy to check, take fired brass, remove slide from gun, remove guide rode with spring, remove barrel. Than try to insert shell under extractor-it should stay there pretty firm, with no wobbling. If it doesn't-you have problem with extractor. Otherwise, there is nothing else wrong can be there.

Doubt that. I can shoot reloads that I have ran over with my truck and have covered in dirt and they shoot fine.

I had issues with my 9mm sp2022 out of the box. Some of yours sound similar to mine (details in this thread http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=769604).

I ended up sending it back to SIG (under warranty, so no charge). They made some adjustments and it came back running like a champ.

If rembonjaski had similar issues and Sig fixed it, then perhaps you and I ought to call Sig to send our guns in. Perhaps the issue is really the pistol, not the operator. It just happens that several operators (like my wife and users here) have found an effective remedy by using a firm, death grip on the pistol, but the underlying issue isn't solved... I too want my pistol (and my wife's), to go bang every time. And in a high stress situation, it'd be nice if it went bang, even if the operator's grip wasn't perfect...

As far as the slide locking back, here's a good video from a Sig team shooter explaining it's the thumb positioning that causes the slide to not lock back.

Hi everyone,

In the last range session, I went through a box of 50 rounds without a single jam. The slide locks back perfectly now.

I did several things different this time:

1. I used Hoppes 9 instead of Gunzilla to lube.
2. I again lubed all the rails and rail contact points, but one thing I did differently was...
3. Lube the pin and the slot beneath the barrel that the pin slides in (the rocker pin that is part of the slide release lever).

I will take it to the range this week and purposefully try to limp wrist it to see how robust this is.

Few years back that was the consensus among the owners with issues. It was more about them being a weak load and less about the shape or if they had been ran over by a truck or filled with dirt.
