The story on that one was the instructor to be was shooting a .38 and the m&p throughout the day. At some point he managed to load that .38 into the m&p magazine as the last one in. I'm not sure how he got it to go into the mag well but once on the firing line he chambered it and pulled the trigger. Now that case gets passed around the classroom as an example of what not to do if you want to become a firearms instructor.

It was real - and surprised you have never seen it before, as it gets trotted out for evey "HK sucks" thread ever initiated on thei internet.

It was their brochure that year. I have several copies of the original; as handed out by HK at their booth at the 2004 SHOT SHOW no less.

There's another moral to this story... one that happened on a range where I was the rangemaster. A deputy managed to get not one, but several 9MM rounds into his Glock .40 magazine. When the first one did exactly what the OP describes, he did a "tap, rack, bang" drill as he'd been taught. The pistol failed to fire. He repeated the "tap, rack, bang" drill and this time the pistol did chamber and fire a .40 round... but there was a loaded 9MM round halfway down the bore where it had been propelled by the prior "tap, rack, bang" drill. Suprise!

I had to use a press to get the slide back over the bulged barrel to strip the pistol, which went back to Glock and was returned to service after a barrel replacement. That deputy has gone down in Department history as the only one who's ever managed to actually break his issue Glock.

The moral being, if this happens to you, check the magazine 'cause it might not have been the only wrong caliber round that you loaded.

Doubtful. These things go through several rounds of approval including press checks.
I'll bet H&K approved this without noticing it.

9x18mm Mak won't even chamber in a 9x19 Para gun. I'm not sure if it will chamber in a 40 S&W.

380ACP does chamber in a 9x18 gun. Will fire, and even cycle just fine. The accuracy is not great, but serviceable. The case will bulge a bit, but can be resized and reloaded.

This. "The Trading Post" gun shop has always advertised on their P-64's that it "will shoot 380acp well."


And a 9x19 will fit manually into a 9x18 chamber, fire and cycle whatever 9x18 are in the mag.

Caveat: Only military steel-framed 9x18 will do this.

You risk a big problem if you do it on a aluminum framed 9x18.

The 9x18 is the armageddon gun. It can shoot three calibers from it if necessary.
