The law doesn't say that you can't return the gun lock the next day. Or the next hour.

    Keep the receipt.
    Leave the store with it.
Return to the store, and present receipt and lock, tell them you don't need it anymore and you'd like to return it.
    Please read the Calguns Wiki
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

I believe you are not permitted to bring in your own lock. It must be a new one provided by the dealer. Many have the free locks they give away, , but others like to sell them at a profit.

Here's the FFL list with Fees. Shop around.

Law says $35 total for PPTs, or $70 for both guns.

My guess is the Sac. FFL I know will do both for $50 ($25 plus $25 dros = $50 total). You would have to call him to be sure. He's only in his office part time. I'll PM you the info. Better to email him however since he's packed all day.

True, but most stores won't accept a lock return as store policy and of course that's their right.

I have a bag of about 100 - 120 locks, CA approved and unopened. I'm just curious - if I gave these to a gun store can they sell them for about $1.00 each - or just give them to buyers?

from what I understand ...you can bring in a receipt for the lock (has to be dated with in 30 days) and you should be OK. dont need to buy from them

I've never used them, but Helm's in Santa Rosa has quoted me a transfer fee of 15% of the guns value ...

Dude, you are confused; that is for an FFL transfer, not a person to person transfer. FFLs are limited to charging 35.00 for PPTs.

I'm not sure what you are saying. The max on a person to person PPT is $35 per transaction. We both transfer a gun to each other so that's 2 transactions 2X$35 is $70 total The charge per transaction is $35 no matter how many PPT's I do at once.
