I haven't shot an AK pistol but the look is what's calling me (I know it's going to be a novelty to say...). How fun is it to shot, being that it's a single shot? Your opinion please!

If other thread exist with good advice on this topic please let me know.
I built one from a build party and I love it except it should have a slightly longer piston. If you really want a cool one then you should build your own. They are really easy and the whole process is a lot of fun. The AK-Team are a bunch of 1337 ak lovers that will help you build a SWEET ak from a beat up parts kit... Here is mine before, between and after: 9" AK pistol Cost me a lot less to build ($650) then to buy ($950).

HEH. You wanna get a REALLY cool AK Pistol build? Get a SHORT one with a guide rod. Look for an AK pistol kit that is around 6.5-7" barrel. THOSE are sweet AND cute at the same time...

Look through this thread for some inspiration and then go build your original...

Trivial. The store will do it for you while you're signing the paperwork. You won't even notice that it is being done.

The sled is just a piece of wood or plastic that is stuck in the magazine well and typically held in by a single screw. You unscrew it, tap it and it pops out. Nothing special.

            Another question:

If I order the AK pistol online and sent to my FFL, I as the buyer have to ensure it is sent to my FFL in California configuration....right?

Beside the single shot mag what else do I have to ensure...?
            BANG!

For regular pistols typically "no." For AW-s typically "yes." (some configurations are considered AW by CA).

The reason is that FFL-s can handle off roster and 11+ magazines, just cannot sell or transfer them to you. When it comes to AW-s, not all FFL-s can handle them, so just receiving an AW could be a problem.

In your case it would have to be a non-AW, but the FFL can convert it to a single shot for you. You *absolutely* have to talk to your FFL about any transfer as some will refuse it even if it's legal.

Generally you have to ensure that magazine is "fixed," which typically means that the BB is installed. With a single shot *pistol* (no stock, not an SBR or AOW), make sure there is no second grip (makes it an AOW) and that barrel is not threaded. Note that "fixed magazine" is irrelevant since there is no magazine in "single shot" configuration.

Others will chime in and let you know more...

Draco is a modified chopped AK
PAP M92 is a modified Krink
Krinks were designed as shorten AKs from the ground up
                    I'd go M92

I think there are some 1 mm receiver Yugos but all the parts kits I have helped people build were 1.5mm.

I am in San Diego Direct Action Solutions sells AK pistols I do not know what FFLs in your area carry AK pistols. If they are willing to transfer from out of state FFLs you have the option of buying from any FFL that will put on a maglock and 0 round mag/sled for you.

Yes just change the 0 round mag/sled for a 10 round mag that is all nothing else to do.

The Draco and Yugo simply are not worth these asking prices; the market has inflated their prices to these values, and while I do understand the idea of what the market will bear, actual value and quality for the cost can not be ignored in these instances; these are Beanie-Baby fabrications to be questioned.

These are $400 to 450 guns MAXIMUM as far as actual value goes, and that is what I paid for my NEW-IN-BOX Draco just a short time prior to 12/2012 and the "Newton" experience.

If you are going to drop some $700/$800 + after taxes and fees on a Draco or Yugo PAP, I would actually take that money and put it towards an ARSENAL MILLED receiver AK Pistol from Riflegear ($1,395). You will be happier, trust me. Their current asking price is not far off the mark from what a milled AK rifle or pistol was selling at prior to 12/2012, and you are getting a much better quality and better-made firearm.

I also tend to see limited runs exist on milled-receiver AKs, and when there is a shortage of them, their values will double over what a stamped-receiver AK will ever see (unless an imminent ban is being threatened).

I own both a Draco and an Arsenal Milled pistol and I have looked at several PAP-smears; without a doubt, the Arsenal is a MUCH better made gun, more fitting of its asking price. Actually, I think the Arsenal Milled Receiver AK pistols are underpriced at the moment; I am surprised they don't fetch some $1,600 and up, considering what I have seen in the way of AR pistol pricing.

There is no way I would bag the premium for a draco ( now that they are either not being imported, or imported in small numbers ) over a Yugo.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the AK pistol to start with, so I ended up turing my Draco into a carbine.

Not likely; firearm asking prices are like petrol prices - regardless of actual worth, once the ridiculous increase due to panic sets in, a light drop in pricing is supposed to make you feel good about how much you are "saving", like you are getting a deal.

The only saving grace is that 1) the immediate threat of a Federal Ban on such guns is null and void for the time being, and 2) SB374 was killed (for now) so no panic pricing is ensuing, no panic run has arisen. Availability should halp keep costs where they are or drive down used prices.

Unfortunately, most they will probably ever come down is $625 to $650, and that would be for a special holiday "SALE" from somewhere like RifleGear or Atlantic Arms. RifleGear's current regular price on the Yugo PAPs is $699.00, and to think anyone is paying above $600 for a Draco is beyond logic and sensibility, yet people are asking AND getting $850 to $950 or so for the Draco. There is no sense in paying a premium for a Draco over a Yugo PAP if that is the limitation of your price range.

No doubt these are fun guns. Nifty, cool, and I'll put its fun-factor and must-have factor side-by-side with the "awesomeness" of any high-end 1911 or SIG P210. Sometimes, guns are just FUN!!

However, keep that in mind that these are pistols of mostly "gee whiz" existence. A novelty. Very little practicality. They get taken to the range, a few hundred rounds through them, lots of smile inducement and conversation among friends, and then likely never see the range again. In short order, after that one-time trip to the range, they are only pulled from the safe for photos and to get friends to ogle at it in the living room.

They are not going to be carried as a primary CCW weapon. They won't be used as a holstered sidearm. Nobody is taking them out hunting for javelina or whitetail. These are not firearms that you are using for target shooting, 3-gun, or putting it through its paces practicing for IDPA. And they are the first thing to go up for sale when someone needs cash; the Glock stays put.

With the likelihood of the above, if I was limited to the $700, I would pursue a used one, to negotiate a $550 asking price, save on tax, all knowing just about any used one you come across will have very few rounds through it.
