    HK P30 question

I have always been a big fan of the p226 and my buddy suggested I try an HK p30. Instead of finding one to shoot I just bought one from a forum member here a few weeks back. Took her out today and REALLY love the ergos on this pistol! My question is about the trigger. I got the DAO V1 light LEM and while it's a hell of a smooth and light pull for a DA trigger, I don't know if I can get used to it. I shoot a lot of 1911's and usually do trigger work immediately on any other pistol trigger that breaks above 4.5lbs or has a long travel. I love everything about this pistol EXCEPT (at the moment) the trigger pull. Did any of you HK fans warm up to this trigger over time? If I don't, can this version be converted to a DA/SA? I don't know interchangeability of the HK Platform too well.

I've tried virtually every modern HK pistol (USP, USPc, P2000, P30, HK45), and they all have that incredibly poor trigger that ruins the whole experience for me. You think you're finally going to let that lead fly after that awkwardly long trigger pull and hit some resistance...but wait! You have to pull it a few more mm to finally accomplish what it was meant to do.

I was in the same boat. I felt like selling mine after the first range trip. Took it out for a second and things went a lot better. Hopefully the third time it will really grow on me. Its such a sexy pistol. And yes I do believe you can swap out the parts.

V1 and V3 slides are different. V3 has the slot for the decocker button. I have the L version in V1 and love it. Just have to get use to the long take up.

I fell in love with the grip on the P30. It was the first HK I really liked the way it felt. I shot one in a range and HATED the trigger. Never thought about buying one again after that.

You can have a perfect sight picture, perfect grip, perfect everything, but if you mess up the trigger pull even the smallest amount, you are going to miss. Handguns have trigger pulls heavier than the weight of the gun and a very short sight radius. Its easy to miss.

I'm sorry to say, if it was me, I would stick to the 1911s with the great trigger pulls.

Yes you can change the trigger to just about any variant HK pro will help you find the instructions. I converted a V1 HK45 to a light LEM with a heavy reset trigger spring. I tried everything to like that gun in the end I sold it because the trigger killed it for me I just couldn't warm up to either variants I had. I think the biggest draw back to the trigger is the trigger itself I think it flexes to much and makes it feel worse than it has to. If you want to spend some coin you can have it shipped to Grey Guns and for around $300 you might have a better trigger.

Ok. Good to know. I didn't realize there was a special consideration in the slide for the decocker.

My first pistol was a HK P30 DA/SA v3 9mm, and just like you loved the pistol ergos fit/finish everything. I got used to the trigger as it was the only gun I had, shot pretty well with it. As of late though I am really considering sending it over to GGI/ Gray guns for some trigger work. After shooting/owning 1911's and my CGW Cz sp-01 I am totally loving short reset light and crisp triggers. I never thought of the P30 as having a horrible trigger but I can see now why people dislike them. If youre willing to send over the gun, Ive heard nothing but good things from people that have sent P30's over to gray guns for reset reduction packages. Good luck, still love the P30 and haven't given up on it.

Daaaaamn. $365!? I think I'd need to shoot a pistol that had one first to see if it would change the game for me.

Man, I'll spend $3k on a gun but not $300 on an upgrade for one I may not like. I guess it's worth a shot. I really do like EVERYTHING else about the pistol.

The P30 isn't modular like the HK45/C and USP series. I don't think u can go back to DA/SA. U can go DA/SA to LEM, but not back. Even so, HK doesn't approve or recommend messing with the P30 trigger.

OP, I just got used to the trigger. It's an ugly long reset. LEM is much smoother than DA/SA. HK45/C and USP has much better reset.

                          HK P30 question

It took me a few range trips to get used to the LEM. Now I am hooked and wanting to convert all my DA/SA HK's to LEM system.

Edit: and this thing is surprisingly accurate. Here is the first 5 shot group at 7 yards with my my new P30 V2 (heavy LEM).

Damn, I'm a ways off from groups like that with this trigger. Well done
