Do you clean your gun even just shooting 40 rounds?

Please indulge me, I know that I've asked you before whether "Do you clean your gun after shooting just 200 rounds?" and I thank you all for giving your insights.

However, I'm cutting down from 200 to 40 rounds due to the cost. So starting tomorrow, my wife and I will only spend 40 rounds each from our guns (9mm & .40) and will just shoot more with 22LR instead.

My question is, if they're your gun, will you clean it with just 40 rounds fired each or can you wait until your next trip to the range?

Not as critical when using non corrosive ammo but do it anyway it's part of the therapy.

I clean it every time it's fired. If you count on it, clean it.

I clean after every other trip it seems. So about every 300 rounds. But that is just wiping the outside of the barrel and oiling it.

After only 40 rounds it's not a necessity as many will shoot upwards of 500 rounds with nothing more than an exterior wipe down and lubricating the rails... but I like to clean after every time out as well.

cleaning for me is for corrosion prevention, not beautification. Is your glock going to FTF because you didn't clean it every time? no way. But could it prematurely rust because of finger oils, sweat, etc......yup!

At least wipe down/oil the finish and non-chrome lined bores if you don't feel like cleaning the whole thing.

I usually clean every other range trip and just do an exterior wipe down in between.

If I shoot just one round, I clean it.

Why? The primary reason is personal pride. My car could go 5,000 miles between oil changes too, but I like it better changing it at 3K. Its no different with my guns.

The minor yet notable secondary reason has to do with legality. Should the police get the notion you fired a weapon when you didn't , a clean breech stands as proof your accuser is full of it.

I clean after every trip. Will they work if I don't clean them for a little? Sure, but if I am going to invest money into something, I'm going to take a vested interest in that it operates at peak efficiency when possible

Blue steel guns get cleaned after every range trip even if I shoot just a couple of rounds. Stainless guns get cleaned when accuracy drops off but sometimes that takes years.

Yep, do like the FBI does. Shoot it, clean it and then test fire about 40 rounds through it to make sure it functions properly before relying on it to save your life.

I do a full field strip and clean every other range trip, so basically every 200-300 rounds.

In between non full clean, I do a bore snake pass down the bore, and basic wipe down, and relube of crucial parts like the slide rail contact points.
