Just picked me up a P-64 from Gunbroker.com! Woohoo! Can't wait to try her out. She looks pretty sexy too. Not as much as the Walther, but she's cute enough.

PPK can be a nice gun, but most of the PP series pistols need some professional attention to the trigger to really live up to their potential. Walther made a few with an alloy frame that makes it a far more attractive weapon for carry than the mainstream all-steel construction. Blowback action means that there is more recoil from a .380 PPK than from a locked-breach gun in the same weight and caliber like the Ruger LC380. PPK has a "looks cool" element that is hard to deny, but there are quite a few pistols in the same class that I can actually shoot better. If it had a better safety, the old Browning M1910 is pretty hard to beat.

I love the trigger on my pp. The DA is lighter than my Sig P226 and the SA portion of it is as short and smooth as the SRT on my P226. It actually may be shorter. It's an old gun since it was first made in 1929 so the trigger may have changed over the years, I like the one on mine which was made in the 1950s'. Mine shoots 32ACP so there isn't much recoil to speak of. Very accurate gun so far.

I find the LC9 and LCP from Ruger to be extremely accurate, and far more reliable than any ppk I have experienced. Mass, size, and sight radius are definitely a factor, but can be overcome with training.

I'm not sure what your definition of accurate is, but this is what I did at 25 yards/75 Feet the first time out with a rear sight that was favoring the left side. CCI Blazer 115gr standing unsupported and yes I had a flyer

I was looking for a backup sub compact in the early 90's, and it came down to the PPK and the P230. The P230 won out. I just like the way it felt better than the PPK, but the PPK is a very nice gun. Currently looking for a G36 to replace it though for IWB carry.

In ballistics, the P-64 beats the p230 and the ppk. The P-64 is also smaller size, not by much, than the p230. The P230 holds one more round in the mag than the p-64. The P230 is 2 oz lighter than the p-64.

For concealability and firepower, I'd stick with a P-64 any day of the week and twice on Sunday.




As per the pa-63, rk59, smc-918, etc. are nice 9x18 ppk look alikes, but they are aluminum framed. Not recommended for newer 9x18 ammo, much less +p ammo. The only other concealable 9x18 that is steel framed is the BR-61 but it is no longer being made nor imported.

In my book, for 9x18 +p ammo pushing guns that look nice and are utilitarian in their own right are the: CZ-82 and the P-64.
(I never quite visually (cosmetically) liked the Makarov, but that is my own opinion)

Personally I think Kahr makes the best sub-compact pistol. Here is a size comparison I did between a Bersa 380 (same basic size as PPK) and a K40. The bersa is an awesome pistol but the Kahr is in 40S&W. I also own a 1944 PP and it is a beautiful pistol way ahead of its time with all its features but I still prefer the Kahr.
