Just take it apart, wipe off any gunk and lube according to the owners manual. I use SLIP2000 EWL for all my guns. Great stuff.

New m&p

I made the mistake of going straight out into the range the day I picked up my m&p9c. 3 or 4 failures to fully return to battery while shooting. Could have been due to not cleaning or possibly the crap quality overpriced magtech ammo the range happened to have. Either way, after a good cleaning and being lubed with Tetra gun grease it has run 100% on my personal hand loads and the carry ammo I use with it. Also the last time I will ever shoot a new gun without cleaning it first.

I always field strip a new weapon and clean off any shipping oil and get any crap out of the bore. Then I use a single drop of CLP in the sear housing block, and either a drop of CLP, Weapons Shield, Wilson Gun Grease, or Slide-Glide Lite, or equivalent on the rails and recoil spring. I also give the outside of the barrel a super light coat of CLP.Last edited by sholling; 07-30-2013, 4:08 PM."Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." --FREDERIC BASTIAT--

I use FP-10, but any of the decent quality lubes will work. I shot my M&P's as soon as I picked them up from the counter, but in hind-sight, it is a good idea to clean, inspect and lube first...

I've seen the bore cleaner eat off finishes if they are left on too long. I'm pretty careful with that chemical getting on anything besides the rifling.Comment

I use a small amount of Hoppe's Bore Cleaner or Hoppe's Elite with a toot brush and clean as much as I can. Then I spray the bore cleaner out with Birchwood Casey Gun Scrub then finish with lubing the barrel and the seven spots indicated in the manual."Carpe Diem"Comment

Can someone tell me whether or not it is true that ALL M&P's have magazine disconnect safeties? I thought it was just a CA thing but I was just at Turner's and was told it was a "trademarked S&W" thing across the entire board.Comment

Here's one the says in the description No Mag Safety.

None of mine (full size, compact and shield) have a mag disconnect.

Generally with any gun, you clean and lube prior to shooting. With that said, almost all guns come from factory already lubed. Some people purposely leave factory lube in place and shoot for the first time/trip to test function, then clean and use their preferred lube from there on. The reasoning is that if it is defective, the manufacturer can't deny warranty because you used a lube that wasn't applied by the factory.Last edited by fmunk; 07-31-2013, 7:54 PM.Comment

My M&P40L Pro doesn't have a mag disconnect safety...You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
Come on...what harm??
