I like 1911's because of its history, or its part in U.S. history. I appreciate that a lot. And I also like revolvers for that matter.

And 1911's make me look like a better shot than I really am

Gotta love its trigger and looks!

Easy to fix throat the barrel and your Colt will eat any ammo you feed it.

There is so much more to the 1911 then the trigger, it is the thing newbies notice but with more time on the gun, you really appreciate the outstanding grip and balance the slim profile great for IWB carry, the light recoil when doing mag dumps. The way the sights seem to line up by themselves just by bringing the gun up to shoot. Those that only notice the trigger, need to train with a 1911, not just plink with it.

1911's have the plastic guns on crisp trigger break, and accuracy (on higher end models), plastic guns have the 1911's on everything else.

I could speak for hours oon this. But it is easily customizable, versitile and resdily able t be adapted to any need or purpose, and can be a reliable beater that rattles or made into a super accurate work of art.

We all have our opinions. Mine, regarding the 1911 FWIW:

It is one of the most universally ergonomic and pointable pistols ever made. It seems to fit big hands, small hands, and in between hands.

It is skinny enough to hide, and a .45 (usually) so it can make for a decent concealed carry pistol.

Triggers and accuracy, as others have mentioned.

Finally, for me there is an elegance in the all steel 1911 that I can only compare to (sort of) that which you find in a nice, old school S&W revolver. Glocks and XDs are great firearms, but they have less than zero sex appeal. IMO the 1911 does.

I would have to agree with the statements above. Just my 0.2 in the beginning I never was a big fan. People always told me how great they are, I saw it as not following the crowd. I had the opportunity to purchase my first 1911 (MC Operator) And I was hooked! The history of the gun, feel, weight, design, all feel good in my hands. Everytime I pick one up its like a virgin loosing there virginity all over again! And NO other gun does that for me like the 1911, well you know what I mean...lol

It is one of the best looking pistols ever. Being as old as it is, it has Glock-like part swap capability. Don't like that one part? There are 300 alternate replacement parts. One day I want a 1911 in 10mm. I don't want to bother with a new ammo type, but I just want that beautiful polished steel look.

The 1911 was designed by a genius. His designs have proven them selves over and over for 100 years. No one has come along since Browning that could match his accomplishments. The 1911 has lasting appeal because he really knew what he was doing and assembled a handgun that met all the criteria for a functional weapon that has been copied for decades. When you hold one you are connecting to the mind of a master.

+1. John Browning's designs always seem to stand the test of time. I enjoy shooting a Hi Power just as much as a 1911, or for that matter an A5 (another ancient design that has proven it's worth).

Uh, no.......1911's DON'T have Glock-like part swap capability....... most parts require some "fitting" and due to the tighter tolerances of 1911's....... "stacking of tolerances" is always a concern. Glock slides are not hand-fitted to the frames, and triggers don't need to be filed down or fitted. 1911 grip safeties, mainspring housings, hammers, etc are not always "drop-in", I don't care what you buy for a glock, if it's made for it, it's gonna work. Glocks are a mass of manufactured parts and they are simply "assembled" at the factory, whereas mid to high level 1911's are hand fitted and "crafted" at the factories.

I will have to agree with missiontrails on that point even though my ed brown MSH/Magwell just slid right into my Sig 1911 with no problems, 1911 parts do need to be fitted for the most part for tight tolerances, but thats not a bad thing either

My dad had a 1911, then handed it down to me. I'll hand it down to my son one day.
                              That's why they're awesome.

I would argue that nobody is ever excited to be handed down a Glock... but that's a topic for a different thread.

and yes, I own a Glock.

Yeah, as awesome as they are, it's a bit more tedious...
