Glock 17 vs 34

Price is neglible. I'm fine with current grip size of gen 3. Do the gen 4 grips also have the "hump" on the back strap?

Why do you prefer one over the other?

Good price for that G34. Get it since you already have the G19.

If you already have a 19 I would get the 34. I have a 19 and a 17 and if I had it to do over again I would have gotten the 34 instead of the 17. There is really not much difference at all between the 17 and 19.

imho: My favorite Glock is the G19, close second is the G17

The Glock 19 you have is "The Do It All Glock"

BUT, if you "need" or "want" to add another 9mm Glock for HD & Range work = "I" would say Glock 17

The Glock 34 is nice, but really no different from the G17 for the added price difference.
Wouldnt say one is more accurate than the other . . . Too slim of a difference, comes down to shooter.
Price would be the main factor for me: If one comes to be cheaper than the other, I'd get the cheaper one.

- Just buy more ammo, get more range time, &/or a nice set of NS, if you dont already have a set, for your Glock 19

34 I love mine.
Since you have a 19 the 17 will be way too similar. BTW the 34 does not weigh much more then the 17 because of the slide porting.

no reason to shy away from a longer sight radius if it's just a "sit around" gun

Either is fine. I like the 17 and 19 quite a bit. To me, those two guns are about the right size to do anything with. 17 is a little easier to shoot and the 19 is a little more concealable. 34 is a good gun though.

IMO, $500.00 is too much for a former range rental Glock. Rental Glocks usually get a ton of use and I wouldn't pay that much for one.

I've shot the 34 and it's a nice gun without question. When comparing to the 17, I didn't feel there was enough of a difference to warrant the extra cost.
I'd also rethink using a former range rental for a HD gun. I rented a G17 at our local range and after 20 rounds one of the pins fell out.
Glockstore has Gen 3 34's new for $599, but they are likely heavily back-ordered.

I'm fine with the gen 3 grips, but I wish the backstrap was flat like a 1911

There is also the 17c (compensated) that might be fun for range toy (you'd have to try and see if the porting made a difference for you), but maybe not so good for home defense / night shooting with the upward flash.

Well, I'd just consider at "pre-broken-in" Glock. Unless you see damage to the frame, most parts are cheap to replace (except the barrel and sights).

Any Glock worth its salt will shrug off range rental duty.

For $500.00? Too much for it. By the time you replace the parts, how far into it are you monetarily? A new one is $650.00, so if you have to replace the barrel, which I'm guessing you would, you're past the point of the price of a new one. And even if you don't, assuming you can do all the work yourself, how far into it are you monetarily? Even if it's just a $100.00 ($600.00 total), it's still too much. At least it is IMO. YMMV.

I wouldn't do it, but that's me.
