Couldn't you just use the magazine tube with no follower/spring/floor plate? You should still be able to insert and release an empty tube just the same. Like everyone else said, ask the ffl what their policy is. That way you know what you're in for, before you get there.

They would not even check if it was pinned.

Thanks guys! The ffl asked that I bring a 'legal' magazine, and stated that all he cares about is that capacity is 10 rounds max. I'll put a piece of wood inside.

well, as long as you "legally" acquired the magazine it wouldn't matter how many rounds it can hold. He might be being a PITA about the 10rd mag thing, but nothing says he has to perform the test with a 10rd mag. Since it's a PPT, the FFL isn't selling you the magazines, so he shouldn't care. (shouldn't being the operative word....we all know how things tend to work at gun shops in CA since aparently they are the end all, know all, temples to the Gods)

my advice...block of wood, or PPT at a place that isn't going to hassle you.

Just a note to my fellow NorCal Calgunners - seller and I first went to a "Martinez, CA" gun store to do the ppt and were turned away stating that since the pistol is not on the "drop-test" list, he will NOT do the transfer! wtf? It's a ppt! I will never purchase anything from those guys anymore! Maybe he wants the pistol for himself......maybe we didnt look 'coarse', llike him!

Which one? I was shopping around a few months ago in Martinez, my father lives there.

If you have a LTC permit, you shouldn't have to do a safety demonstration. I don't do a ton of PPTs, but when I just transferred my Maverick and XD9SC to one of my brothers, the store owner said that since he has his permit, he doesn't have to do a safety demonstration.

If you cant find 10 rounders you will need them anyways to shoot it so you will have to permanently modify them to 10 or less rounds...

I dont understand why you would buy a pistol with rebuild kits and no 10 rounders available if you were not going to pin/epoxy/whatever them. I am not particularly familiar with that pistol but it seems to have started production in 2011 so unless it shares mag design with another pistol there is no possible way you can have high caps in CA unless you are exempt from the requirement.

                        Depends on your FFL.

Turners required one 10 round mag.

there are commercial mag limiters out there if you need them for whatever reason (some competitions require them but not permanently).

No. The "safe handling demonstration" requires you to load a dummy round into the mag as part of the procedure.
