Hmm that's not acceptable at all. Even less acceptable is the gunsmith not being upfront and trying to make it right with you. If someone PM's me the gunsmiths name I"ll be sure to add him to my "do not recommend list".
It can be repaired, but will take milling, welding and refinishing with something that will hide the non stainless insert on a stainless frame. It appears EGW doesn't offer the gun smithing service for this anymore; too bad as they are top notch welders. You might try Alchemy Custom or Dave Severns, or call Springfield Armory Custom Shop (who I would of recommended for your modifications in the first place)

For things like that I would just cough up the extra money and send it to someone that's well known and has a reputation that would make them replace the firearm instead of letting you see that screw up. I havent encountered many smiths, but I assume a good one wouldnt want this in public. It may not hurt function, but it does bring value down.Comment

Yea I see what your saying man. I dont baby my pistols, hence why the 1911 has a heavy bead blasted finish and I removed the adjustable sight. The thing that bothers me is that I actually paid for work that should have came out perfect, not to mention this happened on a pistol that emptied $1500 + out of my wallet. If he charged me 50 bucks and I knew it would turn out like this, I probably would have done it. Bruce Gray does the milling off of the offending work and welds in/blends/refinishes the pistol. You will have to talk him into it. Bruce is an incredibly ethical guy and a little OCD so his work is pretty much perfect or he won't send it out.No one arrives in Hell surprised. (St. Robert Bellarmine)Comment

You hire a contractor to build some stairs to your back porch. They come out crooked. "Don't worry about it, they are only for function, not meant to be pretty to look at" is NOT an acceptable excuse.Comment
