He's a well known So Cal gunsmith (not Jim Hoag lol) , not local to me, and I have only heard good things about him. Bad luck I guess.

I dont think there was wear, it was a new pistol when it was dropped off. It feels a bit flatter where the lines join together from the smith trying to fix the error I guess.

I would get your money back and contact Rogers Precision or Michguns and get it fixed. If your wife went to a plastic surgeon and got a boob job and they ended up all catawampus like that you wouldn't want her to go back to the same plastic surgeon to have them fixed would you? The diamonds are uneven, dull and not symmetrical - - definitely do not have that person try and repair his first attempt.

the checkering jig wasn't lined up right and was moved after the problem became self evident. see what the smith will do to be fair with you.
you did accept the work so keep that in mind before you negotiate with him.

Wait... really? WTF? I mean yeah it's not perfect, and it's not right, but you didn't notice for a while and you are saying that the photos are worse than it is in reality. It's front strap checkering not engraving, it's not for looks it is for function. I wouldn't let it bother me one bit.
