Get a revolver if you're worried about simplicity

Best option go to a range that let's you rent guns, rent a few guns see what you like go from there.

          Glock

          S&W M&P

The 2 top choices IMHO. Glock is the standard and proven over time. M&P is the new kid on the block, but so far so good. Especially with the new trigger.

I'm sorry but that statement makes zero sense to me and never will make sense. Before you field strip any firearm, what the hell are you already doing? You are already handling a firearm! What's the first thing you are supposed to do when you pick up a firearm? You clear it. I don't care if you are picking it up to just to put it away or to put it in the freezer. You clear the gun, plain and simple. Therefore, you should never have a problem field stripping a Glock.

If you are handling a loaded firearm, you should be putting it into a holster, at the range, or in deep ****. None of those have to do with field stripping a Glock.

So, where's the danger in field stripping a Glock?

So I forgot to reply to the OP. Most of the popular/common ones have already been mentioned. Most modern firearms are really good and it's just personal preference. I love simplicity.
I agree with all this. And a good reminder is that Calgunner who shot himself in the leg because he broke every single safety rule.

He ASSUMED the gun was unloaded and didn't check. He put the muzzle of the gun AGAINST HIS THIGH to brace it, then he PULLED THE TRIGGER to field strip it. So he pointed a loaded gun to his leg and pulled the trigger. The fact that the Glock needs the trigger pulled to fields strip isn't the reason he shot himself in the leg.

Everyone should read that post, it will make you less complacent about firearms safety.

Lets speak objectively here, as I couldn't care any less about one brand over another...

How is an XD more simple than a GLOCK? It has more parts and a grip safety, whereas a GLOCK doesn't.

              WTB used AK MFER.

A lot of people forget the "other" Austrian maker: Steyr.

They make good handguns. But they have yet to penetrate the US market in a big scale. They do make great rifles though. Ever heard of the Steyr AUG?
"Prohibit the peasants from owning katanas, wakizashis, arrows, spears, or matchlock rifles. If the peasants are armed, they will not pay nengu (taxes) and they will not be subordinate to the officials."

Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Sword Hunt Edict of 1588, establishing the class division between the peasants (commoners) and the samurai (the governing elites).

It just isn't a viable option, especially here in California.

I've wanted a Steyr M9-A1 for years and can't get my hands on one. First they were in the US, then they pulled out of the US, then they're back in the US. Then they were on the roster, then they weren't on the roster. I have whiplash based on their actions. Are they here or aren't they? And if they're here, where are they?

Then there's almost nothing you can buy for them in the aftermarket. Try even buying a holster! Basically you have to go custom everything.

I've heard they have a good product. But when you can't get a hold of one for years even when you want one, well, that's just bad business. I've given up.

marketing trumps reality 99% of the time in america, even on guns.

Yes, Glocks are simple. But having to deal with BTF (brass to the face), I'd rather stick with my HKs. And I am fine with DA/SA.

No....because some people can't properly handle a firearm.

Your argument is not one at all. He's asking if it's the safest gun. The answer is no. There are guns that can be field stripped without this added risk. Yes, if handled properly it's not a risk at all but there's a risk of mishandling it so there's a risk of it going off.

You're taking the question and spinning it a different way. It's the same as asking if a Bugatti is the fastest car and answering no, you put a Honda Civic into a cargo plane and fly it at 600 mph and it's faster than a Bugatti.

PS. When I am not at the range and want to pull the trigger for whatever reason, I always check to make sure it's empty even if I'm 99.9% certain it is.

One difference between Glocks and XD's is that the XD's have grip safeties.

Please list all firearms that you would field strip without clearing the chamber first.....

I would hope the list wouldn't have any on it.

Pretty blanket statement. There are a ton of differences between to two.
