If I move to California, should I try to make some money?

Hi everyone, in a few weeks I will be moving to California from Arizona as part of a military move. I am not sure if I will end up staying there, most likely I will stay an Arizona resident. In the event that I end up settling in Cali, however, is it a good idea to try to make a profit before I move? In other words, I was thinking I might purchase some off roster guns that would be very desirable in California, such as:

Ruger LCP (will buy a few of these)
    Glock Gen 4 9mm
    Springfield XDM 9mm
    Springfield XDS 45
    FNX 9
    HK P30 or HK45
A KelTec if I can find one
    EAA Witness
    Beretta Nano
other guns I can't think of right now

Please understand that I am not trying to be greedy. I have massive debt right now from school and would also like to provide cool guns to people who can't get them. Do you guys think this is a good idea? Are there any guns you would like to see added to this list? Will this raise a red flag to the ATF? Thanks!

        This.

Bring whatever you have that is legal. And buy anything that you have wanted (but may decide that you do not want it in the future).

Do not buy anything with the sole intent of re-selling it.

Yes, it could bring up red flags with the ATF and if you sell more than 5 handguns in CA in a year it will bring up red flags with CADOJ.

If you are in debt as you say then don't do it. This is not a way to make a quick buck. Selling firearms with the intent to engage in business without being a FFL is a very bad idea.

FYI If you PCS from AZ to CA, in the eyes of the ATF you become a CA resident regardless of what your driver's license or voter's registration says.

Every now and then someone who travels routinely out of state asks this question, or starts posting up marked up ads in the marketplace. Since there is a 5 gun restriction a year marked by Cal DOJ and this is a publicly available website I will allow you to figure out what course of action you should take.

Any profit you would make would honestly be minimal, unless I'm missing something none of those weapons are off list, or if they are, worth that much besides the HKs. Of course, for example if you are buying the guns at the LE price and attempting to turn them around that may increase your margin, but that's something you will need to address with your purchases with your dealer.

                No.

Focus on getting out of Debt. We can get those handguns if we really want to.

Why not just use the funds that you would use to purchase these off list pistols to go towards paying off some of your massive debt?

Don't do it! This might get you in more trouble than you are already in now.... Especially in this "gun friendly" state!

If you don't get carried away so that you'd be construed as being in the business per BATFE buy whatever guns you want for whatever reasons you want. Also don't buy specifically for anyone due to the BATFE's skewed perception of "straw purchase" which should only apply when dealing with prohibited persons and/or not selling through FFL's but doesn't.

This is still America, and buying something with the intention of making a profit on at a later date seems like capitalism to me, dirty word that it is to some people. Unless all of you bought your house with the intention of losing money on it in the future.
