SR22

I have SR22 (my 1st pistol ever) and its great. It will eat anything...I also considered Mosquito, but had many mixed reviews - specifically about it being picky about ammo..

I have a Mosquito, several hundred rounds in so far between my son and I and not a single failure yet. I hear the early ones were trouble but so far I am quite pleased with mine.

I have the SR22 also. it's my first 22LR pistol and I love it. My only gripe is it's small for my hand but I also got it so I can eventually train my fiance.

Personally I like Ruger's SR22, dont own ine but shot several. If you plan for it to be a carry gun you should watch some of the YouTube videos out there. Here is one, wouldn't want to bet my life on this performance.

Went through the same search a few weeks ago. Looked at the Sig, Walther, a Browning, and the Ruger. The SR22 won. So far has performed flawlessly though the first batch of ammo through it was all CCI. Will be putting some cheaper stuff through it in a couple of days. Very pleased with the Ruger.

Thanks everyone for the info regarding the weapons. I have been bing searching articles and reviews for the Mosquito and the Ruger. Im glad I chose the Ruger. Thanks for all the input from you guys as well. I cant wait to shoot the hell out of it.

The video you posted doesn;t work. That being said, like my walther I will put a lot of ammo through this gun before carrying it. Ill have the ammo picked out and make sure it doesn't FTF. I do have my .45 on my carry license too. So I will just carry that until I get the new one all broke in and ready to go.

I love my SR22. Fun small pistol that eats anything and can shoot it all day. I've noticed Remington golden bullets lead up the barrel.

I got a sr22 some time ago and I was not completely sold on it the first time I shot it but it has grown on me ever sense and I have a lot of fun with it. With good ammo it has been very reliable and I just ran 100 rd. of old crappy ammo through it and had a few 3 problems 2 were definitely the ammo and I'm pretty sure the third was as well. I like a smaller grip because of small hands so the larger of the 2 grips is about the right size but the shape seems a little off but nothing bad. It actually crossed my mind while shooting it yesterday to add it to my permit, not so much to carry for self defense but as one of the three guns on the permit will nearly never be carried and with summer coming and living in a rural area it would be nice to have on hand for plinking or other shooting were a larger round would not be as good. Plus if it came down to it and something needed shooting I wouldn't want to be hit by a .22

The SR22 is a fun little gun to plink with. For target work or small game hunting I prefer my MKIII with a Burris Fastfire, but for just having fun shooting beer cans and metal targets its hard to beat the SR22.

If I had to carry a .22 pistol, the SR22 would be it. It has been 100 percent reliable with ALL ammo I have tried, Federal Bulk, CCI Mini Mags, Remington Golden Bullets, and CCI Blazer.

I love my SR22 and I do think it's a nice gun to carry (if I had my CCW permit, I would definitely consider SR22). Had a chance to shoot Mosquito and didn't like it at all - much heavier than SR22 and trigger was heavier too.
As for carrying .22 - I don't see any problem with it. Head shot with hollow point Mini Mag would be as lethal as any 45 or 9mm...

...but the chance of making a head shot in a real-world gunfight is pretty slim.

Also, the goal of shooting someone is to stop a lethal threat against you, not to kill the other guy. There are lots of ways you can kill someone with a .22 but they will have a lot of time to kill you before they know they are dead.

Best advice is to carry a serious gun (.38Spl/.380 or more) and shoot to stop by creating a "catastrophic loss of blood pressure." Yes, a .22 can kill and the threat of being shot with any gun is often enough to end an engagement. If it comes to a shooting however, you need to make a big enough hole to let the blood go somewhere other than where it should go.

I have a sig mosquito, so here's my personal experience and not just what I read on the internet.

The gun through the first 500rds had alot of issues. Alot of malfunctions, FTE, FTF, etc. After my first 500rds it has been pretty smooth. Occasionally, I'll still get an FTE, or FTF, but my guess is that it's about 1 in 100 rds.

Alot of people need to keep in mind that these rimfires are not glocks and will not go 30K rds without a malfunction. These guns use cheap .22lr ammo which is just that...cheap ammo! it's very dirty and clogs your gun up real quick. The manual recommends using CCI Mini-Mags, but that type of 22lr is expensive compared to other 22lr. The best bulk .22lr ammo in my opinion is the remington golden bullets.

The thing I don't like about the mosquito is the trigger pull. As you probably know it's a DA/SA, so the DA pull is very heavy. I don't remember the pounds, but I think it's like 14lbs or something crazy like that. Not sure why it's so high, but I hypothesize that sig chose such a heavy first shot pull as this gun is used as a starter/training/beginner pistol.

Is sig mosquito the best in tacticool 22lr's???? Definitely not. If I was to buy a tacticool 22lr pistol today, here would be my choices:

1.) S&W M&P 22 - Been firing my friends, and we've probably gone over 1.5K rds and not one malfunction yet...It's been unreal
2.) SR22 - pretty reliable and accurate
3.) Sig mosquito
4.) Walther P22 - If you heard of reliability issues with sig mosquitos, you haven't seen anything yet on the walther p22

My friends and I all own the above guns and I've had extensive experience with all of them (we like to fire the cheap stuff).
