    SR22

So I went to my LGS today and put a SR22 in jail. I had done a lot of research into the Ruger and had chosen it to replace the walther P22 as my carry weapon.

So while I'm there, the guy pulls out a Sig Mosquito....It felt so good in my hand and had two recoil springs for shooting bulk vs high velocity ammo. Replaceable front sights. It literally took me twenty minutes to finally pick the Ruger.

Reason being; its a clone of my p22, it comes with two magazines (sig only has one and another was 40 bucks), It is easier to conceal and I already have a holster that will fit it, and my young daughter shoots a lot and the sig wouldnt fit her as well as the Ruger. She shoots the walther all the time and is proficient with it.

Anyone have a mosquito? I am seriously considering going back next month and buying it. Pro's, Con's?

Have an SR22 (like it), don't have a mosquito. However, there was a good deal of info posted (when I was looking last year) regarding issues with the Sig Mosquito's. Don't know whether that was a passing phase in production, or just internet b!tching, but I don't recall much praise for the gun.

I think you will do just fine with your Ruger.

You carry a .22 as a self defense carry weapon?

If you shot me with that thing and I found out about it, I would be Pissed.

I'd write a letter reminding you, and nail it to the top of your coffin.

Seriously though, I catch a lot of hell from those gun owners with caliber complexes, but none of them want to bring their .45 and let me take the first shot.

          To each their own.

Carry gun, no. But it is a good .22 pistol and much better then the Sig from every thing I've read. The M&P .22 would be my first choice with the Ruger a close second.

Try a google on the sig mosquito. You should get your answer from there.

For a carry .22.. I'd seriously consider an LCR 22.

The very nature of how 22s are made makes a lot of the ammo not exactly the most reliable. With an LCR 22, you'd easily be able to pull the trigger again if you had a dud. As reliable as my Ruger 22/45 is, I've still had weird bent cases that wouldn't even clear with a simple "slide" racking.

I held a LCR22 and found it to be very uncomfortable. It certainly was an option in the beginning, just from the standpoint of a wheel gun isnt going to jam.

Google searching the mosquito now. Its got mixed reviews thus far. The SR22 has mostly good reviews, so looks like I made the right decision. Maybe ill just get the sig in a 40 cal.

Then I wouldn't have to send memo's with each round used to defend myself.

SR22 is the best semi auto .22lr pistol on the market

SR22 has been completely reliable for me. Only thing you should worry about is ammo without a copper jacket. The barrels have a tendency to lead up.

One thing I've found with our SR22 is that it is NOT picky regarding ammo: Pretty much eats everything we have used in it. You DEFINITELY will feel the difference in perceived recoil (yes, even with a .22!) between standard velocity and high velocity ammo. The gun is just so small and light. I almost have to say that shooting std. velocity ammo is more pleasant/fun, and it has functioned 100%.
