    Which full size kimber

I am in the market for a new 1911. I am looking at fullsize kimbers. i am tring to decide between the tle custom, tactical custom, and the cdp custom. Price is an issue so the tle has the others beat there. But I am tring to decide if a bit more for one of the others would be worth it. This will be used for range home and some carry.

I don't own any Kimbers, but for what its worth, I like the simplicity of the TLE, the fact that its also LA SWAT issue is an added plus. Just my opinion.

You're good to go, as long as it says "Classic" on it.

        PDR79,

The Custom TLE II has a steel frame while the Tactical Custom II & Custom CPD II is aluminum. About a 7 ounce difference and colors. List price is within a couple hundred from each other at www.kimberamerica.com

I have the Custom CPD II for my first 1911 and really enjoy shooting it at the range.

Bang for the buck seems to be the tactical w/ all the additional checkering and standard magwell. Not to mention the usual Kimber cool stuff like the trigger and night sights. It seems to be a no brainer if you can get over the aluminum frame and the color....but, this is usually a big reason people pass on it.

Otherwise, my personal "can't go wrong" is the TLE line....of course there's also the Supermatch

Are the Kimber Warriors and Desert Warrior still based on the first gen, I know they're different somehow from the IIs.

Yup, no Schwartz safety for the Warriors. We get the buttplug, neutered version.

We get the Warrior II. So is the only difference the buttplug? We can't remove it ourselves?

People have removed the SII safety before. Here's a recent thread on it.

Ok I have seen discussions where folks have removed the Schwartz safety essentially making it something along the lines of a 70 series. How exactly is this done? Does it make the Kimber more reliable or function better?

I am very happy with my TLE.
Got couple FTF on a first hundreed rounds. None after that.
Fed with my reloads CWS, hollow points, round ball you name it. Did super light loads (with spring change) No mailfunctions. Current round count 3K.
                      Great gun.

I have a TLE RL (w/ external extractor). It's a great gun with an excellent trigger and very accurate.
I've had 2 problems: 1) The front night sight turned pink. Kimber fixed it for free. 2) I have FTF's about every 1000 rounds. A new recoil spring fixes that real quick. I just always keep an extra spring in my range bag.

I have a Custom, Custom TLE, and Eclipse TLE...

They all shoot about the same, look for the features you like...

thanks everyone. My first choice is probably the cdp but for the money the tle will most likely be the one I get.

get the kimber you can afford. I own 3... cdp II pro, cdp I compact, and a gold match II... I shoot the cdp II best..., go figure, schwartz system and short barrel... be sure to break the gun in before making any decsions to modify your gun...! 400-500 rounds... once that happens, you'll be in love... I only shoot my 1911's now...
