So can you legally purchase a .50 barrel and go to the range in CA, nowadays?

The "50 caliber myth" is that anything that is 50 caliber is regulated - it's not. CA has a registration/ban only on 50 BMG which is a very specific cartridge (there are some additional details about being "shoulder fired," etc.). 50 DTC is good to go, as well as 500 S&W and 50 AE.

Above 50 caliber you start running into "destructive device (DD)" territory where the devil is in the detail. For example, 12 gauge is over .70 caliber, yet it's not a DD.

Back to DE, conversion parts are very hard to find these days. If you find them, please post when/where you got them.

They both get stock in on a "regular" basis. I used their e-mail stock notification when I got my 6" .44 mag barrel and mags. Only had to wait about 3 weeks.

I'm selling my 6 inch 44 barrel. MR makes 50 barrels with brakes now. That means all 50 all of the time.

I reload, cost isn't an issue.

my rostered stainless de44 ca only has the extra firing pin block and does not have the magazine disconnect safety. Its a blast to shoot. I'd probably shoot it almost every range trip if I could afford it and find ammo for it

I have a brushed chrome DE44 with a brushed chrome .50AE barrel. The gun is awesome. Runs well with most ammo I put through it. Just make sure they are all FMJ or semi-jacketed ammo. If you keep it clean and clean the gas port with the multi-tool it runs reliably.

The CA version has the firing pin safety in the firing pin stop and the firing pin is different that works with the safety in the firing pin stop. It's not made to keep the stop from backing out. I have never seen or heard of the firing pin stop backing out. I replaced my parts with a new pin and firing pin stop from Magnum Research. No mag disconnect in my CA version. Maybe that's new but never seen one with it.

.50AE ammo is available for about $1.25 to $1.75 per round. I've seen Hornady 300gr XTP ammo for about $25/box of 20.

+1 on the brushed hard chrome - imnsho the best looking finish in the lineup, practical too for cleanup and holding up to holster wear.

Some say "novelty gun" like that's a not-so-good thing...
Unless your gun is dedicated for home defense, or competition, or hunting, then, by definition, it's a "novelty gun", right? A Desert Eagle is no more a novelty gun than a .45 Glock if you don't intend to use that Glock for competition, HD, or hunting.

A Desert Eagle is just as valid a purchase as any other "casual" gun purchase.

as long as you don't "limp wrist" it, and use good ammo, will work wonderfully.

i bought a 44 in brushed chrome (not stainless) a few months ago.

already have added 10" 50 and 44 barrels, as well as 6" 50 and 357 barrels.

just need to find a 10" 357 barrel and a 357 bolt.

also scored a 10 round mag!!!

MRI will have 10" barrels and bolts available soon.

i bought the last 4 boxes of Hornady 50 ammo that bass pro had, been buying ammo from PBR, reasonably priced, great service.
