Bickering aside, there is one very big difference between .357/.44 and 50AE: the former two are rimmed cartridges (suitable for headspacing on the rim in a revolver cylinder), while 50AE is a rimless cartridge (designed and intended for semi-auto pistols).

Rimmed cartridges in a magazine are typically slightly offset such that rims don't collide and the cartridge above is slightly in front of the cartridge below. Otherwise, the stack of cartridges must "bend forward" (the way AK magazines look) since the back is wider than the front. This can lead to feeding problems. Not saying it does, just that 50AE is a proper semi-auto round, while the other two are not.

The CA version has a mag disconnect safety and firing pin block for the roster.

Both the black and brushed chrome versions are now on the roster.

Converting it to .50AE involves a mag and barrel swap and takes all of 1 minute.

They are really neat, unusual and fun pistols! Enjoy!

If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.

I have had the chance to rent one, the .50, a long time ago at a range in Santa Clara. I was young and the gun got goo gobs of attention for the sheer noise that it made. I was too poor to afford to buy one of my own. Thirteen years later, I figure I better get one now, before the oppurtunity passes me by and before they are illegal CA.

Last month I bought a IMI Desert Eagle in 44 mag. The barrel and ramp have been polished, it has the Hogue grip and it shoots great...I have wanted one since i was a little kid. I have not had one jam or FTF with it yet.

The original .357 is a hoot to shoot

Considerable amount of flash and the high pitch explosion is piercing

              Recoil is between a .22 and a .38 special

Diffidently a novelty gun, but it is my favorite to shoot for fun

No major feeding or extracting issues, the gun likes the loads to be hot and if you roll your own, you can tailor the loads to your needs

Malthusianism is the idea that population growth is potentially exponential while the growth of the food supply is arithmetical at best.

Sounds like a rockin' good time.

If handguns were all about serious and not about fun I could just buy a half dozen Glocks, a tackle box full of magazines and parts, a pallet of ammo, a quart of Mobil 1 and be ready for the apocalypse.

A fellow shooter once allowed me to shoot his .44 mag DE, with an Eotech attached.

Recoil was pretty soft compared to a revolver.

Would I buy one? Probably not

So can you legally purchase a .50 barrel and go to the range in CA, nowadays?

Why not? There's nothing preventing you doing so except for the range rules itself.
