    range report: M&P9

Shot my M&P for the first time on Sunday. 200 rounds and only had one FTS (more on that later).

The trigger isn't as mushy as I expected, but I did catch the "ghost" reset a few times. I think a phone call to Apex will solve the trigger problems but I wanted to at least get rounds through the gun first - and I'll probably shoot more before adding anything.

    Dot Drill

I started the Dot drill at 3 yards and shot it twice today.

First time I scored 47/50, second time 49/50. I'm glad i improved throughout the morning but I threw all rounds on the same drill. The last 2 dots "draw, fire 1 on 9, speed reload, fire 1 on 10 (x3)" and more specifically, the #10 dot. I need to slow down and make sure I find my front sight after reloading.

First run on left, second run on right.

Did some other shooting with rifles. insert typical stuff here.

And now, the FTS. yes, that stands for Failure to Sight.

    a closer look:

When i realized the white dot popped out (somewhere in the first 10 rounds of the day) i looked around for 2-3 seconds before thinking "what is the point of looking". spend the other ~190 rounds and the rest of the day with no front sight. could be worse, but now i'm prompted to either use a white paint pen to fill it in, OR just buy new sights.

Oh, I also got a first round hit with the M&P on a 2' steel plate at ~200 yards

    update:

    Come at me, bros.

Lol same thing happened in Hickok45's review of the M&PC. Get a set of trijicon HDs and never look back

And congrats on the M&P, you will love it. I'm pushing past 2500 rounds with 1 FTE on a crappy reload.

Thanks. I got a smoking deal on it.

I'm still on the fence about what sights I want. As long as I get quality, i'm not worried - be it 10-8, Trijicon, Heinie, Novak, etc.

Tell me about it. 200 rounds was a mere morsel of the gun.

Very nice shooting. Sucks about the sight. I hear it happens a lot. Wonder if they are using white out at the factory?

Nice to see you were getting more familiar with the feel of the trigger on the second run.

As tight as the shots are on Dot 10, I don't think it is as much a matter of finding your sight as much is it might be that you're tightening your grip on the push out

Possibly. I'll have to try and diagnose it next time I'm at the range.

Not that I care about groups, but I'd like to bench it at 25 yards and see what kind of accuracy I can get.

I have a set of Trijicon HD's on my 9FS and I love them, but Ameriglo's offerings might be a better value.

I have the XS Big Dot on my 9c and I'm really warming up to this sighting system. It's worth checking out.

Glad you're liking your M&P's. They're awesome guns.

Right now I'm leaning strongly towards the Novak Duty Adjustable sights (for the rear - don't know yet about front) so that I can have a similar zero to how my Sig is (the M&P front sight indexes differently).

Nice 200 yard hit! If you don't have to use the gun for competition, look at stippling your grip, really changes the feel of the gun. I did my own in 5 hours using a hobby woodburning kit I picked up from Harbor Freight for $9.

In terms of sights, you should also throw Ameriglo Hackathorns into the mix. Serrated black with hi-vis front w/ tritium.
