Are there any particular 1911's that should be avoided? I'm looking to pick up my first 1911 pretty soon.

Looking back on things, I will recommend that you don't spend less than $800-900 to get a 1911 such as a Kimber Custom II or a Sig 1911 XO. I bought an RIA 'Tac, and although I love it and it's become a reliable shooter, I wish I had spent more to begin with...

Be careful of RIA 1911. They can be great firearms, but working at a range with RIA rentals I have seen what 10,000 rounds can do to them. We have had to pull them off the line more than once for broken springs, guide rods, and missing pins. Keep in mind our RIAs are worked hard and don't get a lot of TLC, but from what I havee seen I will not be purchasing one. I'd stick with the big dogs, Colt, Springfield, Les Baer, Kimber, and Sig.

I pick up my Kimber TLE/RL matte black on Monday! First one for me I've had a G22 for about 5 years and love it but the last 9 months or so I've been craving the legend. Paid $1k to fellow calgunner, I'm stoked, been back and forth between SA & Kimber in my price range and already thinkin about high end! Not infected yet though.

Yes I have it bad, I got my Ar out the way and picked up a Springfield 1911 S/S target loaded w wood grips, yes I feel in love!
Impulse maybe but heck that's quality right there
I don't like RIA rollmarks,colts are $$$$ and kimbers not familiar w
So can someone convince me to spend 9-1100 dollars
And honestly before the effin hype and buying everything high what did these babies usually go for, do they retain value?
Mil spec? Target? Trp?
Yes I'm new so don't wanna overdue it or eff up on first buy

I imagine all rental guns are worked hard and don't get any TLC. I will probably never shoot 10K rounds in my life, but I wish I had read this post back in December when I was choosing 1911's; it would've been the decision maker for me...

For a person that knows no discernible differences between 1911s and want to have and shoot for visual aesthetics....which one?

I prefer a black one with stainless steel accents (hammer, trigger etc)

Gunstore I go to has Kimbers on backorder and recommended that i get a Springfield Loaded

Barnwood arms in Ripon had 3 Warriors for $1469 on Thurs. That's where we did paperwork, it was my first time there and first time I've seen that many in one place at an honest price. I might have saved a little more if I'd known anybody close had that kind of stock.

Same here. Those are some great looking pistols!! I just love that old school look that they have. Only problem for me is that the pistol also has to be functional. I need all the help I can get! Especially the front sight, beaver tail etc. The one thing I still cannot seem to find is anybody that does the old Colt bluing. None of the newer guns seem to have that. I know that there are some custom shops that will do it, but they're very expensive.

You might want to check out the Argentinian made Sistema Modelo 1911's. They have a bluing very similar to the old school Colt's. They just don't carry the high Colt cost.
