    Holster or weaponlight?

Recently broke my M&P 45 out of jail and I want to buy myself some gifts. Apart from, ammo what would you get first: holster or weaponlight?

Personally, a light + holster that is capable of carrying both.

If it's one or the other, you should go light first then holster. If you go holster first you end up with 2 holsters because you'll need a new one once you get a light.

What's the intended purpose of the gun? First handgun? CCW? Nightstand? Which one would you be more likely to use?

If you don't carry, there's no need to dump a bunch of money on a holster. Just grab a cheap Uncle Mikes paddle ($20, I have a few) and a TLR-1 ($100'ish).

Good holster like Raven Concealment or Safariland ALS. A hand held light can be just as effective in an HD/SD situation and I assume you have one you're comfortable with. Honestly, you're going to end up with more than one holster anyway. Different holsters for different applications.

yup if you don't carry no need for a holster really immediately, if its for HD i would get a light

You need a holster, you don't need a light.

Holsters and slings, the most important things right after a safe, ammo, cleaning stuff, a place to shoot, and more ammo.

Absolutely. I think the whole "you don't need a holster" mentality is a California thing because Californians rarely ever get to walk around with a gun on their hip.

                  OP, holster absolutely.

This... You can always just use a flash light if you need it around the house. Then all you need is a couple more mags, and join up at your local USPSA club.

The OP hasn't answered me yet, but if he doesn't have a CCW or any plans to shoot USPSA/IDPA (I figure he would have chosen 9 or 40 for that), you guys still think he NEEDS a good holster? If we're talking about how the extra money could be spent on stuff other than the 2 options he gave, I'd say buy ammo or get some professional instruction.

He didn't say good holster, and I wouldn't venture into competition without a lot of research.

Something you hang on your belt to hold your piece? Everyone needs one, otherwise you will have to bring your nightstand to shtf.

                          That makes sense.

Yes this is my first handgun and and intended purpose would be home defense and range gun.

Tried buying generic holsters from my LGS but they didn't fit my gun. Also I have shot plenty of handguns so I have experience shooting but more instruction wouldn't hurt!
