    Taurus 1911 45ACP

Had to back out of a buy on one of these tonight found out the aren't on the list and the gun is out of state.
Why the hell is a 1911 not on DOJ list?
    Okay rant over.

Alright, the bullsh**t train stops here.

The Taurus PT1911 is the only model of production 1911 I'd buy of the shelf right now. Why? Free lifetime warranty, EVEN IF ITS BOUGHT USED.

Buy a used Springfield/Sig/S&W/Kimber with a failed internal part, and you're screwed. That's not a risk with the PT1911, an new example of which I owned alongside an $800 Remington 1911 R1 I bought new.

The Taurus had zero malfunctions in 500 rounds, safe for one when it loaded a Federal .45 ACP case which was missing its rim. Since thats Federals fault, it doesn count. The R1 clocked in two FTEs .

You guys can keep calling Taurus guns junk if you want to. Helps keeps the prices low for me to snatch em up.

The 1911 may have been in wars for 100 years, but Masetro Bartolomeo Beretta was arming the world 400 years before John Browning was ever a wet dream.

OP sound kinda new to 1911's, +1 better for you.
Go with the some more popular brands, eg: Kimber/Colt/Springfield/Sig, even RIA, just for the re-sale is easier.
Although, I would not mind trying a Taurus 1911 one day.

I am not knocking on any one company, but warranty is good only if they honor it and capable of repairing your gun, door to door (imo, most cases).
With that, new or used; Springfield customer service & their repair/gun smith rocks!!!
You will find some negative threads, but you will have a landslide to how they have taken care of their customers.

Oh, there is SSE if you really like to grab the Taurus.

+1 On Springfield. If your budget allows. Rock Island is a great gun for less money, I am on my 4th one and love them.

A co worker from Tennasee loves his PT1911. He owns several other 1911's including a older Colt. I would consider it a RIA alternative.

We have two exceptions to the rule in this thread apparently. Consider yourselves lucky. People make Hi-Point appreciation threads after all

Taurus makes decent Beretta clones - 1911's not so much.

I've known several Taurus 1911 owners; all have had problems with their pistols ranging from badly fitted parts to a broken ejector that required a trip back to the factory to fix.

IMO, they rate at or below RIA in terms of quality and reliability. Both makes have fanbois as well as those who wouldn't pee on either one to put them out if they were on fire. My take is that you get what you pay for; if you want a cheap pistol, buy a cheap pistol.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

I wouldn't take opinions from people that "knows" someone that has a Taurus and it messed up , I would take an opinion from somebody that owns a Taurus 1911 and can tell you from hands on experience what's up..

How about some of the folks here that own many many many 1911s?

Do they they have to buy a Taurus 1911 before they can comment or does the fact that they have looked at them and would not own one rule them out from offering advice?

My Taurus pt1911 AR, after figuring out some problems caused by the previous owner is great, not to mention their customer service is top notch. I would put it against any pistol in the price range. I had friends with numerous problems with their RIA's and GI and Milspec models. Mine takes theirs on reliability hands down. You notice no one who owns one here is talking bad? I own a Taurus 617 as well, and it is excellent with the only difference being a heavier trigger.

Have you ever owned one? Every thread about one I see your crap, but where is your experiences to back it up? I have thousands through mine with no problems.

I don't get it. The 1911 has been around for 110+ years. The patent has expired. There is a century available to unsderstand the design. 1911's are 1911s. The plans are the plans, the design is the design. Why would any 1911 be "crap"? If the manufacturer does not deviate from the blueprint, why should it be any worse than any other? Sure, you can have cast frams versus forged frames, but really, what difference does that make to the functioning?

If Taurus has a bad reputation, then that's that. If we're bashing it because it doesn't cost a lot, that's idiotic.
