the hogue grips with finger grooves make it fit like a glove if you've got larger hands, its a world of difference.Comment

To tell you the truth I'm a bit nervous. I bought the pistol not knowing too much about them. After doing some research I've found that the 9mm versions have had their fair share of problems. I'm hoping since I bought this pistol used without the ability to fire it first, I didn't pick up someone else's problem.
As soon as I pick it up this Thursday I'm immediately heading to the range for some testing.Comment

I was finally able to shoot this thing! First night I had 1 failure to extract and a couple of failures to feed. This was right after picking it up from the LGS. It wasn't till I brought it home did I realize how dry it was. I did a complete strip, polished the barrel ramp and throat, trigger bow and some of the internals then adjusted the sear spring for trigger pull then greased and oiled it up. I was impressed at how much cleaner the trigger was after the oil and adjustments. Got it down to about 3.5 to 4 pounds.
Went to the range again and didn't have one failure, only thing needed was a little tweaking to the rear sight. Shoots straight with little recoil! Definitely happy with this purchase as I was a little worried reading about all of the extractor and feeding issues online.
Next, will be a trigger action job as soon as my stones, hammer and sear jig comes in. Also ordered a Wilson Combat spring refresh kit, new trigger, TJs shim to remove the 80's series parts and convert to a 70's series and EGW drop in magwell. As soon as they're delivered

You may want to look into replacing the "Power Extractor" that the newer Paras (including yours, I'd be willing to bet) with a standard extractor setup.
That and finicky magazines are the only weak points of the pistol.I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!Comment

Thanks guys!
I'm glad I didn't get the one with the front slide serrations as well. I should have mentioned that I called para and told them about the extraction problems. They were kind enough to offer me the new EGW HD extractor as a replacement for free. They also gave me the option of sending it over for them to install. According to them it would need a little smithing to tune and fit. They also said it would be a fast 7 day turnaround. Because my problems were gone after the strip and lube, I opted for them just to send it to me. I figure it'll be nice to have an extra in case the problems come back up.
The only problem I have now it finding mags. I was able to find 9 of the nickel plated 10 round factory mags and 2 factory 18 rounders online. Ordered them 2 weeks ago and still waiting for them to come in. Hopefully I'll be able to find some more at the Del Mar Gun Show this weekend.
Next, I'm thinking a Para 38 super barrel conversion and 5 port compensator from EGW.
Added grip tape to the front strap today to help control muzzle flip. Not sure how I feel about it yet, it bites pretty hard and chews up my fingers.

I have a P-14, 45 and a P-10, 45 both are great guns I have owned sense the mid 90's. Both very good guns. Para has a great lifetime warranty, and great customer service. I broke a barrel link on my heavily modified P-14 after to many round to count. Called Para, got an emailed overnight shipping label on their dime within 15 minutes of the call. They told me it would be about three weeks to repair as they were busy. Sent it out on a Monday. Called and confirmed they had received it on a Wednesday. Got an email the next day confirming it was being shipped. Called them to find out if it was really true. Talked to the service manager who told me that after my call he realized it was a simple fix so he went ahead and did it that day. Got the gun back on Monday UPS overnight, exactly one week. No cost to me. Receipt indicated that they also replaced the recoil spring, and slide stop, and test fired. Sending both of the old parts with the gun. That's the best customer service I have received in a long time from any company. They stand behind their products. You made a good choice.Comment
