I invested in a Homak one gun safe for my nightstand drawer. Electronic lock been running on same batteries for 2 or 3 years.
The big safe holds the other guns, all unloaded.
Lot of piece of mind for very little $.

1. Always keep your guns locked up.
2. Never let an 8-year-old kid stay up past 9pm.Comment

Sheriff's investigators said 40-year-old Carlos Santillan Serafico was arrested for investigation of negligently maintaining a firearm accessible to a minor. It was unclear if the boy was related to Serafico. To be fair though, quite a few folks keep their nightstand/home defense guns with one in the pipe and usually don't relocate them to the safe periodically. Well, he's still negligent, convenience comes at a cost. The boy had discovered the loaded pistol in a dresser drawer in the upstairs master bedroom, Davis wrote.
Nevertheless this kid was not properly educated in gun safety and ended up hurting someone and getting someone else to take the fall.
Well, at least it's not like that case of the LAPD officer who was paralyzed by his own son shooting him in the back with his duty Glock.WTB:

So it's all the owner's fault and not at all the kid's fault? Seems to me the kid was the one behind the trigger, and 8 is by far old enough to know better. If that was my kid he'd get an old-fashioned belting for pulling a stunt like that.Wish I was rich instead of so damn good looking.Originally posted by stix213I'll worry about Hannibal Lecter having too many rights when the rest of us get ours in the first place.Originally posted by Just DaveAny American who isn't on a government watch list should be ashamed of themselves.Comment

I can't agree with you more. I do always keep my guns locked up but I have also taken a good amount of time to teach my kids proper gun safety. The two have to go hand in hand! I have to know that if my kids are ever at a friends home and they ever come across a firearm that they know not to play with it. I have also taught them that it's very important to tell an adult if they find or see a firearm. I can't lock up everyone else's guns but I can teach my children to respect them. It was the same way I was brought up.sigpic

Leave your guns out, and put your kids in a locked safe. The more prohibitions you have, the less virtuous people will be.
The more subsidies you have, the less self reliant people will be.
