    First Handgun - Going Glock

    Hey guys and gals,

Im going to get my first handgun this month and am thinking glock. I like the reliability and feel of them. Im having trouble deciding which to get though!

I am stuck on 9x19mm glock 19 or 26. I want to use this as an every day carry once I get my ccw. It will be for home defense and personal defense.

    Any help in choosing?

I'm thinking along very similar lines for my next handgun, with the thought being that it will someday be used for CCW (hopefully!). I'm sure that the 26 will virtually disappear into concealment, but I haven't yet handled a 19 or seen it used as a CCW.

I like the fact that they'll both take full-size 17 magazines, too.

Have you found a place with them in stock?

I want to shoot the 26 first to see how I do with only 2 fingers on the grip.

Definitely get the Glock 19 in 9 mm. The Glock was designed around the 9 mm cartridge and is absolutely reliable/flawless in 9 mm. The M19 is a great compromise between more compact size for concealment and long enough sight radius and magazine capacity to be a formidable combat handgun

with the grip extensions (think Pearce) they are quite nice and not at all uncomfortable to shoot at self defense distances.

As for carry purposes, the Glock 26's are still quite a bit fatter than some of the alternatives out there from a carry perspective. Look into some single stack 9 or 380 choices out on the market today that offer plenty of punch while minimizing printing.

Well in cali 10 Rds limits me legally.

I have a source that may be getting some glock 17s in a week, no word on 19 or 26 yet.

I like the 19 to add accessories since the 26 doesn't have a rail, but then again it adds to bulk when I want to carry it concealed. I hope to use it as my everyday carry if/when I get a ccw

this is a valid point. in a home defense situation you'll want to be able to identify the target before engaging, so a weapons mounted light is a popular addition (SF X300, TLR-1/2/3, etc.), just something else to keep in mind.

If you want to conceal, definitely get a smaller pistol or even a revolver. The smith and wesson model 642 is the one I am looking at for conceal carry.

Im gonna feel the 26 out for the grip, I have very small hands for a guy so idk if it will effect me as much.

Can I get a price check on the 26 and 19?

no matter how small your hands are you'll be hard pressed to get all 3 fingers on the grip (w/o the use of an extension). if you by some miracle are able to get all 3 fingers on the grip, the finger grooves that are built into the Gen3 Glocks are sure to impede your desire for a comfortable grip.

as for price... i've seen them from around $520-$580ish unless you're a LEO, EMT, etc and can get in on Glock's fantastic "Blue Label" pricing.

I would not get a G17.... Too big a pistol to be justified with 10rd mags.

I agree which is why im leaning toward the 19 and 26. I think ill get both eventually, but for now I need to get my hands on them both.

Anyone know of good places to find glock accessories?

Also, im newer to flocks. There's no manufactured 22lr glock right?
