Op: The above is key in my humble opinion. Please heed especially if this is going to be primarily used by your wife. Otherwise, I like the G19 for a compact 9mm and the G26 for sub compact.

Concealability is definitely better with other guns. The funny thing about handguns is they are an extemely personal product. What you like and shoot well may not hold water for her so I would definitely get her " involved " in the process.

Maybe, take her to a range and shoot all the guns that both of designate as candidates.

M&p 9 fits my wife the best and we went with that. Also check out the xd series. Sell your current glock, and buy a m&p problem solved!

You must check out the Ruger SR9C. Love mine. Very nice features......adjustable sites, ambi safety, trigger safety, nice grip checkering in the plastic, reversable rubber back strap. Plus flat and pinky floor plates on the magazines. $400...... What more could you ask for?

                go!
Go try out the Glock 19 and 26 with her and see what you guys like. I would avoid the XD line because of the safety on the grip. Its just one more thing that can malfunction and if it fails while you are in a bad spot or you dont have a perfectly placed grip on the thing, you are screwed.

If it's for range/HD I'd go with a full size. Recoil and flip management are easier.
                      If you're not carrying, I wouldn't go with a pocket cannon sub-compact.
                      If you're set on a compact, I'd go with a G23 and get a 9mm conversion barrel. 125.00 you have both a G23 and a G19

You better [if it is for the wife] let her pick one out. You know brunch then a trip to the store.

                          update:

so we went to the range and i took my 21sf and we rented a g19. she thought the g19 had less recoil and was more fun to shoot. i may just end up with that or we may go again and try out a couple more. but she definitely like the feel of the smaller gun in her hand rather than the 21sf.
