Do you plan on carrying/concealing it? Also, if you love glock, go with the g26!

      Got a G21SF .45 ACP...?

      Get a G36 .45 ACP.

Compact, Slim, Light wt., Accurate, companion ammo, Glock.

Glock 19/26. The 26 has an awkward grip for some people, so if this is partially for the wife, let her try it out. You can never go wrong with a 19 though. And you should be used to glock triggers and all, so I like the idea of a 19/26.

Best ergonomics in this category probably goes to M&P9c.

Best out of the box trigger probably goes to SR9c, at least the one I tried. But an M&P with apex parts is just as good.

...and I recommend an XD if none of the above work and you don't mind the grip safety.

And don't forget, there are always non polymer. Sig P228/229 and 239 come to mind although the 228/229 is roughly the size of a G19 or slightly larger.

And personally, after looking around at .45acp options, I'd go with the M&P45c. It's pretty much identical in size to the G19 and holds 8 rounds of .45.

This is of course if you like the idea of sticking with .45.

                I've owned a G26,, XD9sc, M&P9c, LC9, SR9c, P11, PF9 and currently own a PPS and P99c

Of all those guns the only ones I can say I truly disliked were the KelTec P11 and PF9, and the Ruger SR9c and LC9. The triggers on the P11, PF9 and LC9 were all HORRIBLE. The SR9c was a good gun, but mine was unreliable, failed to reliably ignite primers even after two trips to the Prescott repair facility.

If you are looking for a single stack my two suggestions would be a M&P shield or SSE a Walther PPS. Both are great guns, the M&Pshield I shot was reliable and accurate, the trigger felt better than my M&Pc that I had. My PPS has 400 rounds through it as of today, not a single failure and one of the best triggers I have ever felt in a single stack compact 9mm.

For a double stack compact you can't go wrong with the XD, Glock, or a Walther P99c, though I am not sure if the P99c is on roster. I didn't like the factory trigger on my M&Pc very much, though the APEX trigger kit with a duty weight trigger spring made it a lot better. I just put 100 rounds though my P99c this morning, first time out with it, and I was shooting 3" groups at 25 feet, after 25 rounds there was a nice ragged hole in my target. The P99c has the best trigger of all of these, with my G26 that I had coming in at a very close second.

This is all my experience though, what was right for me may not be for you. But my suggestion would be to look at the G26, XD9sc and M&Pc first, and if you can get one take a look at the P99cAS as well.

Look at some Kahrs if you want a compact 9mm.

                      Great shooting guns

I actually just dealt with Kahr, horrible customer service. Decent guns, but their CS sucks so much I won't ever buy from them again.

If its not a carry gun, why would you won't a subcompact. Don't buy anything smaller then a Glock 19/23 for a range gun. If you do you won't enjoy shooting it.

If its for the wife and just another gun to shoot, go with a bigger 9mm and not a compact. If anything the added size and weight will help with recoil.
