Glock 21sf or RIA?

How much does a new Glock 21 SF retail for? I am in the bay area.

I love both. But for emergency, I will pull the Glock first.
I use both for competition shooting but like the Glock better for defense.
The cock and lock on 1911's is ok with me but for holstered carry I prefer the high round count better and the reliability of the Glocks.
I would also go for a better brand of 1911. For Glock trigger it is very easy to change trigger pull and make it feel like a 1911. I like the recoil of the Glock: it goes back and lift where as 1911, goes straight up. Bigger grips on Glocks are easy to fix. Grip reduction and stippling is the answer.

The Glocks are like the energizer bunny, it keeps on going and going. Magazine drops with full load and filled with sand and still goes! I have tortured tested most of my Glocks in competition.

Get the 1911. It has a 100 year track record. All my .45's are 1911's (with exception to my S&W 22-4). Each time I look at a .45acp chambered pistol I always migrate towards a 1911. I've given other types of .45's a shot, but still can't find anyone of them shoot better for me than a 1911. I've tried shooting Sig 220's, Glock 21, Glock 30SF, Glock 36, HK USP's and non of them feel as nice and shoot as nice as a 1911.

First off, I am a 1911 person. I love my 1911s. I would say get what you truely want. Do not compromise on your purchase. If you have to wait a couple months to save up some more cash, you will not regret it. If you compromise, you will likely have buyers remorse and wish you gotten the other one. I also have a 21sf. It is my nightstand gun. It is simple, reliable, shoots straight and if in the unfortunate circumstance I have to use it. It can be cheaply and easily replaced unlike my 1911s. Given the choice to own only one, it would be a 1911 hands down but again, I am a 1911 guy.

I've owned both. I don't have the RIA anymore, don't plan on getting rid of the Glock. 'Nuff said.

Don't listen to people who say its not comfortable. That's moot. When I first held mine I was "iffy" about the grip. Fast forward 3 months later and now I'm in love with it. As corny as it sounds I feel safer with a Glock. Its a secure feeling when you know that 99.999% of the time when you pull your Glock in an HD senario its going to go bang. It gives you piece of mind.

I loved my RIA tactical right up until I sold it for a whopping $350. It was a great gun and it is still working hard for a friend. I wanted something a little nicer in the end. If I did it all over I would have waited to buy something nicer new or used.

I have both. Up front......I love 1911s. So mechanical and the prettiest handgun made in my opinion. The Glock is blocky and not very attractive, in my opinion. Now to reality. The Glock is a great gun. If you bought one and it did not work perfect out of the box; I would be surprised. Glocks are immensely reliable and very easy to modify, field strip and clean. They are also 1/2 the price of most 1911s. My RIA .45 had major problems right out of the box. I sent it back for repair. I pick it up today, so don't know how it will work. I have Sigs and Colts also.
Kind of like sport bikes and Harley's. Except most 1911s are really nice. If I had to run off to the woods and could only take one gun for survival, I would probably take my Glock. I may sneak one of my Colts just because I love them so.
Oh another thing. 1911s have the best triggers. Glocks can be made nicer, but they are always mushy. 1911 has a crisp trigger.

I agree the 1911 is a better looking gun. Its awesome. Feels even better in the hand. I love my G.I. but guess what, its jammed plenty of times. Mostly due to mags but a jam is a jam. I'm sure somthing like a Kimber or Sig 1911 with Wilson Combat mags would be damn reliable but still. With all that said if I was going into a life or death situation and I had both guns on the table. Id grab that glock everytime.

Like others have said, I'd go with the Glock for now and save up for a more quality 1911 in the future.

Does it have to be new? You could get a decent used 1911 like a SA mil-spec or loaded, or a Kimber or Sig even. If it has a low round count, that might be the best way into the 1911 world (vs RIA). I am not saying RIA is bad, but you might get a better fit and finish with a slightly used higher end (price) brand. If it is strictly those two though, then I guess the first decision would be SHOOT BOTH as they are vastly different firearms. I would gladly spend $40 to rent both guns and get 50 round through each to make sure I made the right decision.

Glock. I just bought an expensive, custom 1911 --but in a real tactical situation I'd go for my GLOCK. As far as triggers go, you learn how to shoot the glock and it's a non-issue as far as I am concerned. Now, my lc9 is another story.
