I really like my Sig 1911 TTT, very accurate, feels good in my hand. Bought it used here for under your limit. Like it so much, had someone bring in a Sig Scorpion for me. Backlogged so be in jail until beginning of January. Just a bit over your limit, maybe 1050.00 BNIB.
If you really want something that is over your limit, but not grossly, I'd hold out a little longer and save up for it.

You do not see the post recommending Springfield - posting theirs for sale

Just comes down to brand loyalty...good luck.

For $900 OTD I think your best bet is a Sig. They offer a whole lot of bang for the buck. Plus they look really nice....

Sig 1911. For the price, you get night sights, front/rear straps, accurate, and the tolerances are tight just like much more expensive 1911s.

I stated this in another thread, so I'll repost here as I feel it sums up my thoughts on 1911's well:

"In general 1911's are not good to go cheap on. The general consensus is that spending around $1500 on new gun like a Dan Wesson, or similar Springfield will get you a very nice gun. Above that price point, and you hit a law of diminishing returns on your money. Below it, and you are skimping on features and/or quality.

You will find some that will tell you that Kimbers or Sigs are great and swear by them, for less than $1500. Others (myself included) will argue that point. One thing pretty much everyone agrees on however, is that a $1500 Dan Wesson, or a Springfield TRP is a very nice gun, that can stand in the same company as guns costing twice the price (Wilson, Brown, Baer, etc.)

                  So what's the difference between a $500 1911 and a $5000 1911?

                  -quality of materials
                  -quality of workmanship
                  -reliability
                  -performance
                  -comfort
-customer service (Wilson and Springfield are the best, period.)

The more you spend, the more comfortable, more accurate, more reliable, and more beautiful your 1911 will be."

You'll need to figure out how picky you are, and find out for yourself if the extra money spent is worth it to you. Many people buy a RIA as their first, to get acquainted with the platform before stepping up in price.

                  Some more gunporn for you:

                  Ed Brown Kobra Carry

                  Wilson Combat CQB

Springfield NM Bi-Tone (pre milspec, circa 1992)

                  Good luck,

How about a REAL 1911A1? REAL, as in WW2 U.S. military issue, genuine original combat handgun. All milled American steel, says "Model 1911A1 U.S. ARMY" and "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" on the side, and is the reason you're speaking English now instead of Japanese with a German accent. LOL!

Seriously, the good folks at Faith Armory in Temecula have one laying there in the case that is pretty interesting and worthwhile. It's a WW2 G.I. gun, Remington-Rand lower with an Ithaca top end on it. It's still pretty much in origninal military configuration, but someone lightly polished the parkerizing on the slide and added "better" front and rear sights. It has the scarce "MR" (Mount Rainier Ordnance District) inspection/refurb marking on the frame, the grips are the checkered wood type used in the 1930's and early 1940's before they went to the bakelite plastic ones, I think the magazine is one of the Viet Nam War era military ones with the contract numbers on the floorplate.

If you want to know what it looks like, picture the bottom gun in the photos right above this post with an original U.S. military markings, an arsenal grey parkerized finish on the frame and a slightly polished grey parkerized finish on the slide, and the same sights and grips.

The sights could be easily returned to original as the slide hasn't been milled or otherwise modified, or it could be left as is or have other sights installed. If someone could find a correct Remington Rand slide that matches the parkerized finish on the frame, you'd have a pretty valuable and collectable gun.

It's a consignment gun and they are asking around $1,000. It's been there for a while and if someone walks in there with cash, you might be able to get it for $850 -$900 out the door.

I agree with the Freq above, 1911s really require custom hand fitting to realize thier potential. I have a Les Baer TRS which is boringly reliable and the most accurate pistol I own. I highly reccomend a 1911 with at least 30 hours of hand fitting. If you can't afford it yet save up, or buy a used Baer/Wilson/brown or Springer pro.

I got a Kimber Pro Carry II for about $870 out the door. It's only a comander size with a bull barrel. Really accurate.

To emphasize this fact: I have a good friend that is a calguns member, and a brilliant guy. He bought a RIA, some high end parts, and hand fitted them. His pistol isn't pretty, but it looks extremely legit due to the all business demeanor. It's very comfortable, fairly accurate, and generally reliable. He probably spent around $900 or so, his time not included. He is a talented guy though. Most shooters do not have the skill or talent to study and pick up gun smithing like he did. At the end of the day, his RIA even with EGW/Brown parts does not operate the way the 1992 NM Springfield I posted above (and recently had up for sale) does, and is less reliable and and accurate even though both guns are valued in the same ballpark (under $1500).

Unfortunately, even if you are a competent gunsmith, you get what you pay for in 1911's. Parts that are made from better materials, and are built to tighter tolerances have an overall effect on the gun properties I listed above.

For these reasons, many folks decide to bypass the 1911 completely at this price point. Glock, Sig, HK, CZ and others make reliable non-1911 guns that are more than adequate for defending ones person or property.

                            Here is my Blue Baer...

I fitted the S&A slim magwell, 10-8 Gen 2 slide release and extended mag release myself

If you just want a 1911 for the sake of owning history, think its aesthetics are unmatched, or think practicing malfunction drills randomly are fun, any pretty one will do. I like the Springfield 1911 Loaded.

If you plant to shoot said 1911 a LOT, and don't like so many malfunctions, then your choices become more limited to the higher-end Springfield/Les Baer/Wilson Combats. In this range, I would get the Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special.

If it were me, I'd spend that $900 on 1000 rounds and a training class.
