How the heck does a speed loader work?

So I bought a Springfield XD9 and it came with a speed loader. How the heck is this thing supposed to be useful? I kind of get the operation but it still seems faster to load by hand ... anyone have any tips or is this just a gimmick?

If its the one im thinking of its not so much a speed loader but more of a tool to keep your thumb from hurting after a lot of loading.

I got one for my pistol cause putting the last 2 rounds in my XD mags would kill my thumbs after a few times.

Ok I see ... yeah loading a few hundred rounds does make the thumb a bit raw ... oh well just means I need to do it more to build up some calices

I got 451 for single stack 1911 and sig 220 and 452 for double stack like M&P, para-ordnance

They're especially helpful for thick-fingered people using 9mm.

I just left mine in the case. I use an UPLULA to load most mags, much easier to use than the Springfield loader.

My speedloader came with my CZ. I used it for a while until the springs were finally broken in. Now it's much easier to load up 10 rounds without using the speedloader.

Throw away the "speed loader", and get used to using your fingers!

I've only used them with my rifle mags. Makes loading AR, AK, STEN and grease guns a LOT easier. A waste in handgun mags IMO

All those speed loaders suck, including HKS ones IMO. Get an uplula.

I just got an UPLULA at the gun show, per y'all's recommendations, and it's light years better than the speedloader that came with my CZ.
