    M&P Shield 40

Good morning. Today is my first post so I want to start by thanking everyone who puts effort into this site. It's an amazing resource.

So my bday is today and I want to get a handgun small enough to very effectively conceal. I dont have a ccw and will not be carrying in cali, so i guess i have no practical purpose for the purchase other than i want it. Has anyone shot a 40 M&P shield? Does the shield have the same "bad" (I say it like that since that's the main complaint I hear) as the mainline M&Ps?

What is the "bad" about M&Ps? M&P is highly regarded in every respect.

If you are talking about the trigger from what I hear the shield is an improved trigger, and if you still hate it after a few hundred rounds, $40 for an Apex hard sear does wonders. I'll even put it in for you if you're ever close to fresno.

The S&W M&P-40 Shield is still new and currently has not been produced in enough numbers to reach every market place.

The CA approved version was placed on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale last month and distributors do no expect to get them until around Jan 2013. So, it's going to be awhile before they start showing up for sale in CA.

The non-CA approved version is also hard to find. With wait lists/back orders happening in other states.

The non-CA version is hard to find even out here with no roster. They're $400-450 retail, and immediately go on GB or the local sale boards for $500 and up.
My friend was lucky enough to pick up a Shield 9mm for a normal price. I like the grip feel and trigger, and overall I like it better than the SR9c.

                Yeah there is.

Personal preference. Availability of the actual pistol, local ammo availability, other calibers (or lack thereof) in your arsenal, etc... In my case a friend was selling his .40 shield since he like his 9mm shield and hi-capped G27 better.

No need to bash the guys choice based on your personal perceptions.

.40 S&W is a great caliber. I have my eye on the shield as well, just have to wait until Jan. 2013

Thanks for the link and the hospitality. When I said bad I did mean the trigger, that's what I get for typing on an iPhone. From what I've heard the trigger is the only real complaint on the M&P. I have a few buddies with them and it doesn't have as nice of a break as my sig (my opinion).

And I want a .40 for 1) stopping power 2) I already have multiple firearms in 40 and 3) I want it. If we all only made purchases on need, life would be so boring :-)

If/ when you can find one I'm sure you'll be happy with it, the trigger was improver on the shield. Just remember its striker fired so it will be different than sigs and other hammer fired guns. Its easy to get used to and not that bad at all.

The Shield is a great choice for carry. The trigger is much improved over the old M&P triggers, and it retains all of the good that most people like about the M&Ps.

With a little patience, you'll be shooting one in no time.
