Not impress with Glock 19 gen 4

I recently got a Glock 19 gen 4 to see what is the hype with Glock. I wasn't impress with the grip of the Glock in the beginning compare to 1911, Sig or CZ but it is not bad at all. There is less curve in the front of the grip but when shooting it, the grip really makes no difference.

My main concern is that the Glock 19 experience one stovepipe in the first mag. I thought no big deal since it is still in a break in period. It's a used Glock 19 with a few hundred rounds down range but it's new to me so no biggie. Then the second and the third mag the Glock 19 started throwing brass to my forehead!!! It's all random and about 1 in 5 brass would fly straight to my forehead and very close to my eyes (eye protection is a must when shooting anyways). I retired the Glock 19 early for the range trip since I am tired of catching brass with my forehead. I had about 7 or 8 brass to my forehead before I call it quit.

I tried calling Glock and left a voicemail in their system, then email them about the problem. So far after 3 days, no contact from Glock so I am again disappointed with Glock customer service. Before anyone tells me I should call Glock and talk to a live person on the phone, my schedule doesn't really allow that since I work nights for the past week and I usually wake up after 1pm or 2pm. Their customer service hours was 8am to 4:30pm Eastern time... May be I should just go ahead and order the parts myself and start fixing the Glock Perfection.

Ok, truth is, i didn't even read your first post. I got as far as "in the beginning Compared* to A* 1911".

But truth is, a glock is a glock, and a 1911 a 1911, if you like the feel of a 1911 than shoot a 1911.

Now that i've actually read the entire post. The brass to the face or "BTTF" has been an issue with newer gen 3's and older gen 4's. I'm sure Shenaniguns and a couple other members will chime in shortly with a more indepth explanation into the problem.

But if you don't like it, sell it.

Sorry, just callin it how i see it.

However, he lives for that day when he will be able to use his warrior skills and mindset to keep the wolf from harming the sheep."

I haven't tried the Gen4 G19 but I tried the Gen4 G17 and loved the grip. Finally a gun where I can reach all the controls without moving my grip on my main hand.

Check your ejector not your extractor. If your ejector has 336 stamped on it, then you have the older ejector. The new ejector has 30274 stamped on it. This new ejector has rectified most of the BTF. Also while your at it, check to see if you have the newer recoil spring with 4-3-0. If you don't, contact Glock at 1-877-745-8523 and they will get you the current recoil spring.

            Several options:
Send it to Glock to fix. Shipping is on your dime. Unfortunately the best way to get a hold of them is when they're open. Maybe you can get a friend to call it in for you.
Get a Lone Wolf extractor (may or may not completely fix it).
            Use hotter ammo.
Get the Apex extractor and spring ($60)

Ha, I have the same issue with my FNP 9, BTTF all day long. Absolutely hate it, so I can understand the immediate resentment. I would instantly hate, and do, any firearm that did this. I do like how the FNP feels in my hand though.

Knowing it's the extractor/spring on the Glock, I wonder if the same issue is on the FNP.

I am in the same shoes, I've decided to give the platform a try as well. My 3 month old Glock 19 Gen 3, constant "BTTF/erratic ejections". Still recovering from a nasty casing burn mark on my left side temple, and I am a righty btw. Big headache and not enjoyable to shoot at the moment.

So Far I got rid of my #3 Dipped Extractor and installed a #4 OEM Non-dipped Extractor. Have not had the chance to shoot/test it as of yet. If it's doing the same thing I am either sending her back to Glock to change out ejector.

If that does not work, I am unleashing 10rds of Diplomacy through it with my M1A or sell it to fund my next 1911.

Generally speaking, I'm not a big Glock fan at all...

I spent some time recently with a non California approved Glock 19 Gen 4 and I was very impressed. The trigger is much improved, and I found it to be a fine "combat" handgun. It seemed to me it would serve well as a duty piece.

That being said, my first FTF ever was with a Glock, and I'm not a big fan of any tupperware. Maybe someday I'll change my mind.

OP: Most of the issues you listed can happen with any manufacturer. Your FTF could have been ammo related, and brass being thrown in your face can also be due to your shooting style. Either way, they are both common issue with semi automatics. The spring just might need to be broken in more.

I laugh at anyone that says that because they had a FTF or two that their gun is not reliable. If you think your handgun isn't reliable, take a 500 dollar bill and fold it up a few times, and put it in front of your gun. Squeeze the trigger. Is your gun reliable?

While I do like the gen 3 Glocks, I will admitt I am a bit apprehensive about getting a gen 4. But I know I will someday. Maybe I'll wait for the gen 5's.

                            Oceanbob: I live in Sacramento.

Mr.1904: I like to try and shoot different guns and I do shoot a 1911. I have never own a Glock before and after reading many threads about how great or bad Glock is, I like to try one for myself. I found out about the BTTF problem very recently and I am just having a hard time reaching Glock's customer service. I called ATI this week as well and I was able to talk to a customer service representative and they agreed to send me the parts I need for free.

FUBAR: I do have a 4-3-0 recoil spring. I also have a 336 ejector, so should I called the number for Glock?

chonkey: I already learned to take apart the Glock 19 so replacing part is not a problem. I actually like the simplicity of a Glock. All I need is a new ejector or an extractor and try not to spend extra money to make the gun work properly especially if it's a known problem. I tried Freedom munition 9mm, CCI Speer Lawman 115 gr 9mm, and Aguila 124gr 9mm and experienced the same problem.

SacTown: 3 out of 500 BTTF is not good either since I don't even remember the last time another gun that I am shooting throw brass to my face.

RobGR: Looks like Glock is not the only one that love throw brass to people's face. I have shot a FNP9 before and it ejects properly. The only problem with that gun was the plastic on the grip is so soft that if you hold a tighter grip, the plastic compress and the magazine cannot drop free.
