AR/AK "Type" pistol - Uses????

In the past I've never had any desire for an AR or AK type pistol, particularly the AR with the buffer tube hanging out the back.

Lately though, I've been eying the Century Arm PAP M92 in 7.62X39 and the Sig Sauer AR "type" in 5.56. Held the Sig recently and really liked the feel, side charging handle, ambi safety, etc.

My question is what do you folks who have these use them for at the range? Most all my shooting is at my local range where I either shoot rifles, pistols, or shotguns. They have private bays where I can practice concealed carry drills, etc. Usually, I shoot out to 100 yards, but also closer at clays, targets, jugs of water, etc. My son loves shooting stuff like that.

My thinking is it would just be fun to have one, but the bullet button is a turn off, particularly on the AK type due to how clumsy that type of BB is.

I'm used to the BB on an AR, so I'm leaning towards the Sig despite the hefty price tag.

My thinking is I'd put a single point sling and red dot on it and just plink at targets, etc.

So, for those of you who own one or more, how do you use them at the range? How far do you find it practical to shoot with any accuracy, and what is your general assessment of them?

They are a FUN-GUNS they make people smile...I just bought a steel target to shoot at. Figure I can tag that ar550 at 60-120 yards pretty regular with carry handle sights...and the blast that baby puts off is impressive! I personally like the Tube out the back for stabelization whether cheek weld or pressing it into your chest ect. Look on youtube for the proper way to shoot these guns accuratly that would be my suggestion!

I bought the Draco AK47 pistol when I also bought my AR. I really wanted an AK but this was a pistol and all I could think of was how cool it looked and how it would probably disappear from CA sooner or later so I just HAD to get it.. Well I did like the AK platform. It was cheap to shoot the surplus stuff. But aiming it and hitting the same thing at a moderate rate of fire was terrible due to the lack of a butt stock. IT was accurate. Don't get me wrong. It was just slow to re acquire the target again. I was just kinda over it and ended up trading it in for something different.. If I lived in another state where I could have SBR'ed it easily, I would have held on to it.
The AR pistol at least has the buffer tube to kinda act as a stock.

I think you should just find out to shoot for a day and then save your cash for something more useful. JMO

Fun guns. Always puts a smile on somebody's face at the range. Bumpfiring out in the desert's a blast. They can be more accurately aimed while wearing a sling.

Besides, they give CA politicians heart attacks...

Meant for CQB not long range. They're a blast and they'll grow on you. I've built up 5 just to find one that i really like... and found that i like them all.

Not all AR style pistols have the buffer tube hanging out the back. Take a look at the Robinson Arms.

Just fun range toys. Also you can pretend you live in a free state and have an SBR. I have a Draco, PAP, and AR pistol, tons of fun!

I shoot my Draco at SLOSA out to 125 yard gong and hit it consistently...No handgun I have will EVER DO THAT. Groups very well to say the least.
It is my HD gun depending on where I am staying.

I don't see a lot of point in having these. I'd much rather have A side or under folder if I wanted the option to have my rifle compact. Either way will require a BB anyways

With a side/underfolder, you still need 30" minimum fireable length to be able to fold it.

Cause they are FUN!! I just finished my AR pistol build and am loving it. I didnt really like the look of the buffer tube sticking out the back at first either, but since then it has grown on me and makes it a way more accurate gun while cheek welding it. Too bad its so loud and bright or itd replace my xd9 as my HD weapon.

It is just fun to have one that others do not have and then once you tweak it and get it to shoot great then life is VERY nice...

I built mine from an AK-Team Build Party and I love it now. I got the bugs worked out and I have put about 400+ rounds through it.
