To me, that was the whole point of the gun in the new movie: marketing the stupid recognition system that restricts the gun's use to a pre-encoded user's palm print (or something like that).

This movie is full of references to older 007 films. The "palm reader" is a nod to "Licence To Kill"(1989).

Hell, I clapped as well for the nods to classic films. I just don't think bond should be a dark brooding character. I am very aware that's how the books were written, but what we all know and love as bond is quite the opposite. Not depressed and brooding, but suave and sophisticated.
There is no sophistication in brooding, just adolescent negativity.

Finger placement is excusable during a gun fight, especially given that he's laying in top of a BG and shooting in some unconventional position.

It's certainly sort of weird and complicated, considering the Daniel Craig films take place in current day, but these are more or less "prequels" to all of the movies that were already made. The movie series started with "Dr. No" even though "Casino Royale" was the first book. This is why you see Daniel Craig first becoming a 00 in Casino Royale. It's the birth of Bond. He isn't polished, he hasn't chosen his drink, etc. He's killing witnesses before they talk, girls are dying, he's much more rash and physical instead of mental... all that stuff. We've basically gone back to the beginning. BUT... yeah, throwing in the fact that it's modern day makes it a little weird to do prequels but you get the point, right? Daniel Craig didn't lose the P99 because he never had it. I guess.

In my estimation, I think the P99 went down the road because the movie staff wanted a more recognizable prop. A PPK is iconic Bond, so every layperson can ID the classic pistol even if they're not gun nuts. A P99 to the average Joe looks like a Glock .

While I doubt Ion Productions cares about realism, in point of fact some units like 1SFOD-D do use .380s when the job requires them to be armed in non-permissive environments like foreign countries with strict gun laws.

Yes the HK416 that Moneypenny had when she shot him was not well done. The optic mount was clumsy and the flash hider was upside down. None of it really mattered in the scheme of things and hardly anyone would have noticed or cared about that.

I looked at it as she was portrayed as semi-competent in the field (driving the Range Rover poorly, shooting a moving target and hitting the wrong guy, etc), so having a less-than-perfect rifle went along with it, intentional or not.

Don't think it was meant to be a HK 416 exactly (note the lack of colored markings on Eve's rifle), but the birdcage was definitely put on upside-down... the armorer for the prop must have been asleep on the job. Tsk tsk.

Watched Skyfall last night. Kinda disappointed. The movie didn't feel like a Bond movie, more like your typical Bourne spy flick. Gadgets, cars, and women are mandatory Bond items and in this movie all those things are almost non-existent. Daniel Craig's portrayal of Bond as a constant brooding and self hating individual is played out. They need to get on with making a Bond movie already.

I think the PPK matches Bond. The P99 looked good on him and seemed more practical.. but I still imagine an all steel gun, sleek in Bond's hands.

I'm surprised for the hate. I mean, I can see those disappointed if they're expecting something like the older Bond movies.. but to be honest.. by today's standards they're kinda hokey. I think they did a good job balancing Bond as somewhat believable while still being mythical.. kind of like watching Anderson Silva fight. We all know he's human (and he's had his downfalls), but he still pulls out something that makes him look untouchable. Also, I think they added just enough humor. Bardem was an awesome villain and his acting is so good - everything from his little mannerisms and sudden change in moods, definitely eclipsed Craig (reminded me of Joker from Dark Knight). The cinematogrophy was gorgeous (especially the Shanghai scene), but I wouldn't have expected less from Sam Mendes (I see Road to Perdition as a modern day noir film).

NO, grip pressure is different than finger pad on the trigger. The only function of the right hand is for the finger to pull the trigger by just the slightest movement.

Then how do you shoot One-handed...?

I agree, but I did enjoy the small nods to the classics. But not enough to redeem the entire film.

I thought it was great - very interesting and well written for a Bond fillm without too much lame flash and stupid sappy lines.

Of course I'm re-reading all the books in order right now and Craig is the most accurate bond of them all (Even though Connery is still my favorite - for now).

Forget the handguns - a $24K Wheeler 500 Nitro Express Double!!! Now that is bad@ss!

I like the newer Bond series including Skyfall.

This will offend many here, but we all know the James Bond of 1960s wouldn't fit in too well with modern times. He'd have 100 STDs, no pay from child support obligations and would have been killed in action when his Q branch Plot Device failed. Craig's Bond fortunately thinks with his big head and isn't dependent on excessive gadgetry to save the day, an aspect refreshingly different from Brosnan's "invisible car".
