The Walther P5 is my favorite Bond pistol.

      Just saw it today,
Ok first complaint about this post an the op:
No one in here had friggin mentioned the 100(?) round drum on the g18 in the opening scene!!!
I hate glocks but that was awesome!!!full auto 9mm with 100 rounds.
Daniel Craig is the most lame bond. Too much brooding and not enough dialog.
And yes he picked up the glock from a mass produced collecting bad guy, but he used a flintlock to get it.
Too many complaints about the movie to write.
      But!!!! *spoiler alert*
The best throwback for te movie was the car, c'mon. Haha

I thought it was a good movie.. Yes some stuff was missing but the series needed a reboot after the invisible car thing several movies ago (forgot the title)

Right? That's the first thing I noticed was the g18!!!
I still don't like him as bond though, he doesn't talk enough and he's not suave enough to be bond dammit. He's not Bruce Wayne he doesn't need to brood

Alright you mentioned it and broke the spoiler barrier, so ill post up one of my major beefs with this movie.

There's a persistent theme of anti-gun bias which honestly almost ruined it for me. What's the first thing you see? A bad guy with a Glock packing an absurdly huge magazine shooting up a public mall in Turkey. Remind anyone of a certain incident in Tucson AZ?

During the following scene Bond is seen using his PPK to no effect on the bad guy, who then uses that same Glock with a 32 rounder to wound Bond. The great and noble MI6 agent James Bond, bravely fighting with his smaller PPK is bettered by a scoundrel with a high-cap mag. Hmmmm, maybe those should be banned eh?

The next scene has a supporting character taking a shot and missing , to tragic effect.
Subtle Message: even the pros get it wrong and hit an unintended target.

Much later in the movie we end up at a Scottish manor. Due to events in the plot the guns in the home were sold save for one, a break action shotgun. That weapon and Bond's little Walther is used to good effect as part of the last action scene against bad guys with genuine no-sh*t assault weapons, giggle switches and all. Gentle message-the trained good guys don't need more than two shot shotguns and single stack pistols to save the day no matter how bad the threat is.

Then we come to Bond's PPK with the grip safety on it, which ends up being taken by a bad guy who is prevented from shooting Bond with his own pistol.

Basic Moral: a safety saved Bond's life and he's a secret agent! It must be good for everyone else then too!

Almost forgot about the UK Board of Inquiry scene. "How safe do you feel?" . Ten seconds later......

Each scene on its own wouldn't meet the standard, but put together I get an unsettling IANSA vibe about Skyfall.

Yeah stupid bad guys think spray and prey accuracy by volume mentality, there too busy plotting there takeover To train properly!!!
It was more than guns that won the movie, look at the theme old vs new ways, guess who won? Lol

I didn't see the hi-cap Glock as an anti-gun bias. I saw it as they needed to establish one of the major themes of the movie in the first scene: Old dog, new tricks (that was a line from the movie).

We had an older Bond going up against a new-school bad guy. He was shown to be very vulnerable (as England was shown when faced with a tech-savvy villain) with his 7-shot old Walther facing the G18. He was then put in a glass box (front loader thing on the train) where he was fully exposed and vulnerable and that got him shot!

Again when he's given another old Walther but this time with a hi-tech palm-reading grip.

Same thing at the Skyfall house, old guns old style boobie traps, put up against the latest HKs.

Same thing when they had to move MI6 to the old "Churchill bunker" and when he used the old car against the BG at the end.

Old dog, new tricks; Old and vulnerable doesn't necessarily mean you are beaten.

Remember the line when Bond was asked what his hobby was? "Resurrection".

I think I was the only one who got the exploding pen reference to Golden Eye in my group. I also think that a certain somebody's resemblance to Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) was a nod to the Quantum story arc even though the film departs from it.

I think the reason Bond always used a "woman's" gun was for concealability and to show how good of a marksman he was.

The Walther PPK was the smallest, coolest, most potent handgun you could buy for decades. Everything else was much bigger or less powerful. You have to remember how long Bond movies have been around. When I saw my first Bond movies in the 60's, his tiny gun was soooo cool. No one had a gun that small and easily concealable. What a perfect weapon to carry in his Tuxedo's.

The other reason was to show how skilled of a marksman he was. He didn't need bigger calibers or higher capacity weapons like his opponents. He held his own against superior firepower using tactics and skill. He didn't need a bigger weapon because his bullet always found it's mark. It was all he needed.

Bond wouldn't be Bond if he had a Deagle under his tux and was driving a Corvette with a KSG in the back seat. It's just not suave and sophisticated.

To me, that was the whole point of the gun in the new movie: marketing the stupid recognition system that restricts the gun's use to a pre-encoded user's palm print (or something like that).

If only they could make PPK's in 9x19mm. I'd be all over one. Of course I've heard that 9x19 is too much bullet/pressure for the PPK's blowback system.

.380 is not as weak as the tactical pundits would have you believe.I wouldn't want to get shot with it, as a .380 to the eye is just as deadly as a .45ACP in the same place.

I never said it was weak. 22lr has killed its fair share of people. I wouldn't count on landing an eye shot in a gun battle with a BG.

But having it in 9mm would have a practical advantage. It'll share ammo with the rest of my 9mm guns, and for reloaders, that's something they don't need to get separate brass/bullets/etc for. Assuming I don't plan on getting a .380.

Likewise that chambering kept me from getting a Browning BDA or Beretta 84 or 85.
