Just got back from watching Skyfall. It was a very good movie. IMHO, it wasn't a Bond movie though.
To me, James Bond is the ultimate gentleman-spy. Suave, sophisticated, awesome with guns, cars and getting rid of the bad guy. Kind of liked the funny one-liners too. It gave him more of a personality. The Daniel Craig Bond is sort of too quiet. Plus, he runs funny.
I do have to admit, the Pierce Brosnan invisible car was pretty silly. But, the Aston Martin in Skyfall was tops! And the only point where I clapped. It was a shame what happened at the end though. It was cool how he used it to get rid of the bad guys too.
The ONLY gadgets were the palm-reader PPK and the homing device? Seriously? Not much for a Bond movie. And, maybe I missed it, but did he ever get it back after the bad guy got eaten by the Komodo Dragon?
My favorite Bond?
Connery. Sean Connery.

Surprised no one's mentioned this, but Bond was even taunted for using his PPK in "The Living Daylights" by Brad Whittaker (Joe Don Baker). "Still using that old pop-gun" or some such heckle.....
Bond (Dalton) fires off shots, hitting the clear armor on Whittaker's gun in the facial area, which bounces off harmlessly, and the bad guy says "You've had your six, now have my ninety!" or something, and rips off a clip at a fleeing Bond....
As for SkyFall: LOVED it, but got sick of people in the theater laughing at Bardem's vocal performance. He was fantastic! A Bond villain we've never really seen... a psychological style villain who really gets in your head.
The movie isn't a traditional style Bond film; more of a psychological-thriller, and I think that's great. I want to see new style bond films, not retreads of the past.
Glad Craig is doing two more!Comment

I wouldn't want to get shot in the eye with a pellet gun or .22 either...
About the lack of gadgets. With the technology we have today, It's more difficult to come up with cool gadgets and it would be easy to slip into the silly territory. Like the invisible car. In the old days it was easy. Make things small, make it portable, or combine a weapon with an common everyday object.Last edited by chickenfried; 11-19-2012, 1:11 PM.sigpicOriginally posted by victor1echoHollywood is satan!!!!Comment

but he would fit in if he lived through the times, how can he pay child support if every woman hes with (cant forget the 2 he actually married, and later both got killed) dies, gets killed or captive? ok i miss the old "q" and even wish john cleese was still doing it. but thats the fun of bond, the gadgets!!! yes there not convenient but there fun, and when they broke that was even more the fun (think ghost protocall) ok the invisible BMW was a disgrace, even though Goldeneye is still imo one of the better bonds of today.I like the newer Bond series including Skyfall.
This will offend many here, but we all know the James Bond of 1960s wouldn't fit in too well with modern times. He'd have 100 STDs, no pay from child support obligations and would have been killed in action when his Q branch Plot Device failed. Craig's Bond fortunately thinks with his big head and isn't dependent on excessive gadgetry to save the day, an aspect refreshingly different from Brosnan's "invisible car".
and i completely agree, craig daniels looks like mickey mouse' sillhouette hahaha big ears and allOriginally posted by Jimi JahI punch paper only because it is illegal to punch people.Originally posted by elpaisa1I think flatulence is a more serious crime. i totally agreed......Connery is still the real Bond.Just got back from watching Skyfall. It was a very good movie. IMHO, it wasn't a Bond movie though.

Connery. Sean Connery.
Ian Flemming's Bond was vulnerable, trained assassin, natural womanizer, have a very dark sense of humor, more Mcgiver like than superman type. Bond relies more on luck and wit to save his own skin at the last minute.
No...Craig never retrieved his PPK after the bad guy was taken by the Dragon. Craig tossed another PPK in the beginning of the film also.
PPK was just an expendable tool for Bond.Comment

Agreed which is why I think Craig is closer to the book bond then any of the others. remember - Craig is "rebooting" Bond and he is taking it from the beginning when Bond made all kinds of mistakes (and got lucky) most of the time to survice his exploits.i totally agreed......Connery is still the real Bond.

I also like the new style of Bond films. IMHO, while the pre-Craig movies are great in their own right, even On Her Majesty's Secret Service, the reboot has turned the films into something that is more in touch with the real world, no unrealistic gadgets or "exploding pens". It makes the world within the films more believable, which for me makes them more fun to watch.Surprised no one's mentioned this, but Bond was even taunted for using his PPK in "The Living Daylights" by Brad Whittaker (Joe Don Baker). Craig is now James Bourne, not exactly the original James Bond.
Ian Flemming's Bond was never meant to be a super hero like Craig.
Gadgets were routinely used to gain an edge over his adversaries...i.e. the famous brief case used in "from Russia with love" fight scene.
Odd Job's head chopping Frisbee hat in "Goldfinger" was another well placed gadget.
"JAW"'s teeth in "Moonrakers" was simply absurd though and i don't really care for invisible BMWs myself.Comment
