22 Pistol?? WHAT??

yes my friends I have decided to get a 22 for my range time (more to save money on practice)
im torn between two that ive been looking at. the Ruger Mark III blued 5.5" or the GSG 1911 22. ive held both and they obviously have there advantages over the others. im just wondering if yall have some advice or personal experience with these models.
im looking into range time and potentially getting into some competitions..as always thanks for your post

I'd go with the Mark III.

Stay away from the gsg. It's junk. Out of the two I'd get the ruger but don't overlook the buckmark

Ruger or Browning are the way to go for a new gun. If you want to go used, look for a High Standard, Colt Woodsman or S&W 41.

Of the two I'd pick Ruger. But if you're still researching, the SR22 or a buckmark are also solid choices.

I've heard the GSG 1911 is very picky with ammo. If you want something that will chew up any ammo go with mk 3, browning buckmark, or the SR22P. The mk III and Buckmark however are annoying to break down and re-assemble. To break down the Mk III safely you'd probably need to buy a soft mallet and possibly a nylon punch. I'd suggest you watch a youtube field strip of it. That said, I now own an SR22P and I love it. The M&P 22 is also just released but from what I'm hearing so far are negative criticisms of it.

Go with the Ruger. Friend had the GSG and it was just a pain in the arse. It is very ammo picky, usually just liked the Blazer. We were shooting with some Remington and we had multiple FTF, FTE, and had the casings getting stuck in the chamber. All problems you just won't hear about with a ruger.

GSG has a slide made of Zamak. As far as I am concerned, you would be shooting a gun that is a potential hand grenade, do some research here and on other sites about GSG 1911 KBs and cracked slides. Rugers are built much better, more accurate. No contest.

I rented a SR-22 and didn't like how it felt, I love Mark IIIs though. I'm thinking of getting the target model myself, I don't like the look of the tapered barrel on the regular one.

22/45 is amazing. Disassembly isn't that bad when you use both your hands and feet.

I had a GSG 1911-22 and was not impressed. While the gun was pretty reliable, the overall quality was poor at best. I've since purchased a Ruger SR22 and love it. Reliable and accurate. I'm picking up a M&P22 from jail tomorrow, reviews on it are great so far. Between the Mark III and GSG, I'd definitely go Mark III.
