The S&W 39 series and descendants make for great handguns. Commendations to the OP for buying one.

There's but one caveat , and its that the ergonomics are, well, 1950s era.For the time they were the best guns on the block, but time hasn't been kind for the 39 series. I owned a 5906 which was impossible for me to get better than 4" groups at 7 yards. The combination of the wide frame, flat sides, and long/heavy DA and Single Action trigger pull meant the best I could do with it was "Minute of Semitrailer". Hopefully the OP has better luck with them than I can manage.

I finally got her out of jail and she looks mighty good. It came with the original box, extra mag, cleaning brush, and blank warranty card.

Gorgeous. Treat her right and she'll be in your family for generations looking just that good. Awesome that you got all the goodies with it, too!

That really is a beauty, looks just like the one I owned back in the mid-70s. I think I paid $278 for it and was happy they hadn't marked it up...demand for it was huge because S&W had just gotten their first large LE contract for them; I think it was Ill State Police.

My favorite mod was the ASP:

...but I cold never afford it. I finally traded it for a 8.375" blued M-27.

Just a heads up, they won't feed HP ammo due to the convex feed ramp. I wouldn't shoot HP or +P ammo through a 39 or 39-2 anyways.
This was my 1st duty pistol in 1971 - loved it. I polished the ramp and it fed everything. You might be carefull not shoot too much +P in it.
