    SMITH AND WESSON MODEL 39

My local dealer has a S&W model 39 made in the 50's it has a couple of spots on the fram above the trigger on the right side, but other than that it looks emaculate, and it comes with an extra mag as well as the original box for $580 plus DROS and tax do y'all think this is a fair price or should I keep searching?

If the condition is as described, I'd take it for that price, especially with the spare mag.

The question being do you plan to keep it stock, or are you going to use it as a start for an ASP or Devel conversion?

It depends on the "spots" but if it is "immaculate" and it comes with a spare mag and the box then I would jump on it. S&W 39's are some of the prettiest guns out there. They are also fine shooters.

        Here is my 39:

The ASP was a "cut down" and customized version of the 39 and 39-2.

Here is a devel made 39-2 custom:

And I would not destroy a 39 or 39-2 to create one.

Just buy it, you won't regret it.

Just a heads up, they won't feed HP ammo due to the convex feed ramp. I wouldn't shoot HP or +P ammo through a 39 or 39-2 anyways.

Well, considering that is is off-roster, sure. But you could definitely find it for quite a bit cheaper in the free states. Or gunbroker, they seem to run anywhere from 350-450 in good condition. Depends if you have any roster exempt friends or friends moving back into CA.

S&W autos are some of the most reliable autos out there. My Dad has a S&W 59 and I had a 459, both shot very well and reliably.

                        I've been looking for a 39.

                        Sigh...

Some more S&W Model 39 trivia...

The Mk 22 Mod 0 "hush puppy" was a modified S&W Model 39 and was used by USN SEALs during the 1960s-80s.
The Mk 23 Mod 0 (H&K Mark 23) was adopted as a replacement for the Mk 22 Mod 0.
The Mk 24 Mod 0 (H&K HK-45CT) was adopted as a replacement for the Mk 23 Mod 0.

That Hush Puppy is an amazing setup. Too bad replicating it is damn near impossible in this state. I like that holster.

I think you mean starting at $350-450. A NIB or close to NIB 39 and 39-2 runs about what the store is asking for their 39. You can even look at the link you posted, most of those are bids starting at or that have been bidded to that price not "buy it now" price.
