Picked this one up for under $1400 new. I would take it over a D.Wesson any day.

Wow, only a 1 year warranty? Might as well buy a Ruger or Springfield

Beyond the forums, the only negative review I heard about Kimbers was at USA Training (Blackwater/Xe) for predeployment checks. They used to run Kimbers for their classes and reported a larger percentage having rust issues and poorer quality metal. I went with a Les Baer when I was looking for a custom 1911...

Get a Springfield, then make it your own with custom parts and finish.

I would love a Springfield pro a man can dream can't he?

If only I was a fib agent it would be mine!

90% of Kimber owners love thier 1911s'. Most hate the coustermer service. The majority of them hate comes from the "I heard group."

Quality dropped. Schwartz safety. "Custom" marketing hype, when really no custom work is involved at all. CS is terrible. Pricing is not competitive. Does their custom shop even actually exist anymore?

The roll mark is considered custom, I guess.

I particularly liked buying a new one from gunbroker and receiving it with a rust speckled barrel.

Are you sure you didn't just receive the "speckled tactical camo" custom edition?

There are just too many other options for people to put up with Kimber, bottom line. In every price range, a better option can be had, whether it be from DW, SA or even Sig. Kimber is bottom of the barrel. They weren't always, and they may not be forever.. but the bottom line is people don't see the need to take the risk with Kimber when there are other options available. For specifics, see any of the 100 trillion hate threads of which this topic originated from.

I wasn't really going to post this, but I had a friend ask me to change out his plastic mainspring housing. I installed a different profile housing, but he said he was going to change it regardless because plastic doesn't seem right for this gun and preferred metal.

I wouldn't know, their customer service never replied to three emails!

For all the Kimber hate in this thread, fact remains that Kimber is the biggest seller for production grade 1911 for several years now, over 80,000 units IIRC.

So, fume in the mouth, spit all the negativity, but Kimber will not sell if they are not good. Its as simple as that.

If that were the case, KIA, Daewoo, and other car manufacturers shouldn't be in business, but they're still selling cars because they're cheap and "look nice" according to some.

It's not hate, they are actual examples of shoddy workmanship and bad CS. You can love kimbers if you want, nobody is stopping you.

Kimbers were great guns untill the ceo that now is lowering Sigs quality did his job on Kimber. IMO todays Kimbers aren't the value or quality they once were, check out their return policy for repairs.
