Glock .45, one hollowpoint in the chamber, seven in the mag, 2nd loaded mag. Mags get changed every six months.
The pistol is kept in a heavy-duty lock box next to the bed. A flashlight is next to the lock box.
I shoot the pistol every other month at the range, with defensive rounds.
Wife just took a defensive handgun course, so she's with the program.

I was robbed at gun point on the sidewalk in a "safe" neighborhood once. I didn't like being shoved down on the ground with a gun at the back of my head. Changed my perspective. Now I know there is no such thing as a safe neighborhood. Now I don't let my guard down so easily.

Twice in the last year I've heard something go bump in the night. Nice to have the pistol and flashlight when I have to clear the house. A lot more comforting than a golf club or a baseball bat...

Stored in a lockbox set in the drawer next to the bed, we have a good sized pier unit with lots of drawers so putting a lockbox in one is not a stretch.

At night it rides in a clip on IWB holster discreetly attached to the bed frame for immediate action. One extra mag in a clip on carrier, a SureFire 9P light (high output bulb) and a verrrry sharp boot knife in a clip on sheath are right close by. If an earthquake or whatever comes in the middle of the night I have all the personal "tools" I need right at hand and I can gear up in about 30 seconds.

I was a LEO, I live in a nice enough neighborhood but yeah... stuff happens.

I agree. I live alone, so anyone that comes in uninvited will be greeted with either hollow points or 00 buckshot.

Military. Live in a decent part of town, but you never know. Have heard noises that should not be made in recent weeks even in my apt complex.

I keep my duty weapon in the dresser drawer in our bedroom (about 4' from the bed). I'm an LEO, so it's always "Ready to go bang." My personal guns are stored with loaded mags, chamber empty.

A little over a year ago, my pregnant girlfriend and I had come home from shopping. It was mid-day on a weekday. As we drove past our sidedoor to the garage, we both saw that our sidedoor (metal security door) was WIDE open. Automatic adrenaline dump. I parked the car in the freestanding garage and told my girl to stay in the car.

Being an LEO, I always have my Beretta 92 FS with me (big, but I like the 16 rounds to work with). I pulled out my Beretta and walked up to the open door. I thought about calling out, but decided against it. Didn't want to give anyone a heads up that I was coming in. I'll explain why later. I walked in the kitchen and cleared the house room by room. Wasn't hard since it's a one bedroom triplex

All I could think of while moving forward was my unsecured weapons in the house. Being a renter, and renting a small place, I decided against buying a gun safe. I told myself that they were too bulky and expensive for my humble collection at the time (1 Remmy 870 & 1 XD .45). This is why I didn't announce myself when I came in. If they were inside with my loaded guns, I didn't want to let them know I was approaching.

Thank God, no one was home. Once I cleared the house, I got my girl and locked us in the house. I inventoried the house and nothing was missing or out of place. Both guns and ammo were accounted for. Weird! Till this day, we still don't know why the door was wide open.

We live in a good neighborhood, two blocks from the police and fire station.

He is an anti-gun guy and he said. "Well, you can't eat ammunition". I replied with "When I'm starving to death with a case of ammunition, who's door do you think I am going to knock on?"

I've got my M1911 round chambered but not cocked in my nightstand. The locks to my apartment are kinda sketchy (I've broken into my own apartment cuz I locked myself out - first time I'd ever tried something like that too), although I don't think that the rate of people getting broken into in my area is very high. Although there was a rash of muggings and such in my area a while ago, so I'm not taking any chances

Some of the rooms can appear that way. My opinion though is that there is not enough weapons.

Why do people restrict HD guns to just bedrooms?

Don't you need kitchen guns & bathroom guns & sofa guns?

Two girls, 7 & 9, oldest shoots the M4rgery when we go to the range(Another good reason for a collapsing stock). Both have their own .22's. Guns are not toys and they are not a mystery to them. They also know there is nothing that will get them in more trouble than touching a gun when Mom or Dad aren't there. They have shot pistols and shotguns, they can make the weapons fire if Dad or Mom are unable to.

Shotgun and AR magazines loaded, chambers unloaded is enough for me, except a 1911 cocked and locked in a thumb break holster.
