I was trying to avoid making another "M&P Shield Discussion" thread, by specifying that I need input from Shield Owners. I realize it comes with the territory of an internet forum, but let's try and get back on topic please...

Thanks, I might have him try that. But again, this is for my dad, and his ONLY issue with the Kahr is the trigger. He just can't seem to get it to work for him. As soon as we find a replacement, he's selling the Kahr.

I have a non-CA Shield and have been carrying it for a couple months. Few hundred rounds through it, zero issues. Decent trigger with shortest reset of any sub I've fired save my P938 which I also like a lot.

My only gripe about the Shield is the safety. The pull is heavy enough that it's not needed. The size and shape of it is also not conducive to activation. But I still use it. It's not a problem to deactivate it with my thumb while drawing the weapon. I do find it less comfortable to reengage it.


I'd say your chances of finding one are fairly slim. My LGS randomly got 10 a couple months ago and sold them to his regular LEOs fairly quickly.

P938 is also an option if he isn't adverse to single action. Same barrel length as the Shield but noticeably smaller.

This is actually a selling point for me. If S&W isn't going to produce a Shield WITHOUT the manual safety, I can deal with a safety that is difficult to engage. I wouldn't use the safety, and my dad probably won't either, so it's good to know that it won't be too easy to unknowingly engage it while carrying.

UPDATE:

I took old pops to the range tonight, and he brought his PM9. Something miraculous happened. It's like a lightswitch flipped on for him, and he started shooting it really well. He had put about 400rds through it before tonight, and was shooting 12"+ groups at 7yds. Tonight he kept all 100rds rounds within 3-4" at 7yds, so it was a dramatic improvement. We still have some work to do, but tonight gave him a TON of confidence shooting that little gun. I'm extremely relieved to see him shooting his PM9 so well. We may still try to grab a M&P 9 Shield, but it looks like the Kahr is going to work out for him afterall. Thanks for all the input guys, one way or another it helped.
