ROLL CALL: M&P 9 Shield owners

I bought my dad a Kahr PM9 as an LTC piece, but he's not warming up to it as much as we both hoped he would. He loves the way it feels, shoots & conceals, but he's having trouble putting rounds on target consistently with the Kahr trigger. I can shoot it just fine, so it's not the gun. I actually like the Kahr trigger, and find it extremely easy to shoot, but it's jut not working for him. I'm continuing on my quest to find him a user friendly SLIM 9mm auto with a decent trigger to carry. For his body type, and the way he dresses, the only option is a super slim 9mm auto. Much to my dismay, he doesn't care for Glocks, and they're too thick for his needs anyway. He's not a fan of snubbies, and the LC9's trigger sucks. He does shoot his USP45C very well, but the HK is too big for him to conceal comfortably. We both know training will help solve the problem, but we both see no reason to start out that far down on the learning curve. Especially with so many other options out there. The M&P 9 Shield fits the bill, but neither of us has ever even held one.

I have two (I am in Texas)... I even hate M&Ps - I hate the factory trigger.

Almost 3 months ago - I wanted a new "pocket pistol." I have owned a Kahr PM9 for over 2 years. But, its not really a fun gun to shoot. I went to the range to rent a Kahr P9... Thinking the slightly larger Kahr might shoot with a little less recoil. To me, they shot the same...

I was talked into renting their new Shield in 9mm. I did so - loved it. MUCH better trigger than a standard M&P (its a little different than a standard M&P), less recoil than a Kahr, and accurate. I found one and bought it 2 days later... Sold my Kahr that same week....

Spent the last 2.5 months looking for a 2nd Shield. I finally found one a week ago.

I have 1250 rounds thru my first Shield - fired in 2 months time. I've been to the range 2x now with my new SHield (last Fri and last Sat). I have 450 rounds thru that one. I love these guns.

In the past, I always felt like I was compromising with sub compacts. I never liked that PM9 Kahr, and I have owned many different doublestack 9mms over the years... I never really liked them and always felt at a disadvantage compared to the fullsize 9mms I own.

Not now... I love these guns, and this is from a guy who hates M&Ps and sub compacts

2. Standard or CA model? Standard model, i don't think CA ones have shipped yet
3. Any issues? none so far, i bought it used, and I've put maybe 50-100 rounds so far, didn't have to shoot it much yet
4. How's the trigger/reset? great, no trouble, its just like the original M&P trigger but a solid reset.
5. What are the chances of finding one to buy? I found mine on gunbroker, paid a premium but I'm happy, it was worth the price to me. just have to get a dealer to SSE one, I would get the standard version if you could, but I only say that because the LCI in the manual looks disgusting and I'm already dealing with a mag disconnect in my sr22 that I hate. i didn't want to have to deal with that on the gun I will depend on.

I have the 49-state version, and I am recommending it to anybody who is eligible to own firearms. The trigger and reset are way better than the stock or Apex triggers (I have both in full-size guns).

I can't wait to get one. Been surfing the web on a daily basis to find one to SSE or buy a CA version at a LGS.

A Shield9 will be my next handgun purchase. I bought a Kahr cw9 for a slim 9mm, and while it's a good size & hasn't given me any problems, it's just not impressing me. I think the Shield is exactly what i've been looking for, or hope so!

Btw, anyone want to buy an almost new cw9?

Had my .40 shield for a couple of months

Trigger is not bad for a S&W, reset is good. I love the size and weight, makes a great carry during these hot summer months! Standard model not the Kali version!

Have you held or shot one yet? IIRC you've done a fair amount of shooting with similar guns, so I had to ask.
