    357 revolvers

Im looking to purchase a 375 mag revolvers. I want to spend no more than 1000 and has to be both single and double action since i will be using it for HD.
I have been looking at sw 686 and gp100. I did like the trigger on 686 but i think the sights on them looks so cheap. Never tried gp100 but i heard many good things.
Im mainly looking for smooth trigger and easy accusition sights. Could you guys recommend me a decent revolver?

You can't go wrong with either. With that said, I have a 686 with a 4" barrel and love it!! The sights are fine....It's a tack driver!!

These are both great guns. The Smith does have a better trigger IMO. Go rent them both and buy the one that feels best to you.

You can't go wrong with either gun.
      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

One point to mention - prelock 686's are CHEAPER than new 686's. Granted we are talking 6 shot vs 7 shot. And yes, they are used, but a lot were safe queens and not used much.

But for $200 less (not counting tax, ect for a new gun - which bumps it up to $300 or more delta), you can have a gun that will keep it's value for a long time. And be as reliable 20 years from now as they were then. And the sights on my 686 are as good as any day sight you can find. Bright orange front sight, and I paid to get the rear (leaf) sight with a small white outline on it. It makes a difference.

Nothing against Ruger either - you are buying from a great company and they are great at revolvers.

Just bought a 4" 686 and after 1 range trip, it replaced my .40 Px4 in my bedside vault. The thing is a beast, has an incredibly smooth trigger, and is definitely more accurate than I am. I've heard great things about the Rugers too, but after trying both, the 686 trigger was the deciding factor for me. Don't think you can go wrong with either.

Looks like 686 is the way to go, any inputs on the ruger or any other company?

Also as far as the ssr or plus, is that worth the extra cash?

The SSR is expensive. I don't understand why it's cost is justified. Maybe if you are a target shooter. Which sounds like it's not your intent.

Ruger has probably the best customer support of any gun manufacturer, bar none.

S&W is in the top 5.

So either way, you win. Most folks argue the 4" vs. 6" barrel.

Shoot both at a range - the 6" is great for paper, but the 4" is probably your best bet.

                  THIS IS A GOOD PROBLEM!

Ruger is also great gun & they make good revolver with less expensive than S&W, but you can't go wrong with those two.

Ruger GP100 is a solid design, built like a tank and works well. The action will wear in, although not as quickly or as well as an S&W, and it will eventually be a smooth shooter. It's comparable in size and weight to a 686, so in some ways they are an apples to apples comparison. The Ruger is going to have a much more attractive price point than a new S&W.

A 686 is a fine choice. An older, pre-lock, gun is always going to be preferable. Shizz about the lock aside, an 80's to early 90's vintage gun is going to be better put together, IMO, than a brand new example.

If it's solely an HD play, a 4 inch barrel is going to be optimal for that purpose.

I have had my GP100 for almost 20 years and love it. Solid gun and as others have said, built like a tank.

The S&W 19 or 66 with a 4" barrel makes a fantastic HD revolver. The 19 comes in blued or nickel and the 66 is stainless, both have a shrouded ejector rod but lack the full underlug like a 686.

Uhh, OP wants a 357 round. Yes these will chamber a .357.... And are highly desirable, but are not designed for steady diet of .357.

If OP wants .38 spl, all guns listed above will do fine.

It is for a HD purpose. However with that said, my current HD (hk usp) is the gun that i use most often in the ranges. So i would want a gun thats fun to shoot as well as accurate. Im not looking for super short trigger pull, just smooth and easy. I do feel that 6" is way too big for any type of scenerios but do look cool.

Also anyone know in socal that carries lot of ruger?
