    1911 under $1200

Was at the dealer and checked 3 brands , springfield, kimber, and SIG,
budget is around $1200 and all guns are almost the same price. This is my first gun and all of them are nice, best fit in hand is SIG it is like glove don't know why soon as I take it it feels like it is there all the time. Can anyone give me any info on this 3 guns and which should I buy, or any other option (1911 only ). tnx

Go with the Dan Wesson RZ-45. It has no MIM parts and you'll find the fit and finish to be better than anything else at that price point. It will come in right at $1200 if you can get a deal, but it is money well spent.

My vote is for Springfield with Sig coming 2nd. Can't go wrong with either of those IMO.

My wife has the Kimber Custom II and that thing fires like a dream. But there's no substitute for a gun feeling perfect in your hand. I've read (on this very forum) good and bad things about the SIG 1911. I'll own one someday and know myself whether it's good or bad.
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

The best advice anyone here can give you is to shoot all three and decide which works best for you. Otherise, the only thing you're going to get from this thread are opinions from all the fanboys dedicated to brand x, y or z.

If you can find a Dan Wesson in your price range, get it.

"IF"...is the key word. Not sure you are going to get a DW 1911 for that price in CA.

my vote is to get a RIA 1911 tactical, a GLOCK, and some ammo for $1200. It being your first gun and all, you might as well get two amazing guns that go bang everytime you pull the trigger and put the lead right where you point them. They are also user friendly and pretty much indestructable.

of course if you just want the gun to look good, then all three of your options are great. And they are also great guns that will likely also go bang each time and put the lead where you want it....

but if you read that again you'll realize you're just paying more money for the looks, not the function. So you gotta think about what you really want the gun for and go with that. Nothing wrong with wanting a sick looking gun, you're just gonna end up paying for it. Keep in mind though that some of the higher end guns are finicky with ammo so you might not be able to shoot the bargain stuff (MIGHT...some have no problems at all).

just want to make sure you're not just being pressured into buying a more expensive gun because someone told you that $1200 is the only way to get a good 1911....if you're gonna spend $1200 on a gun it should be because it's the gun that YOU want for YOUR OWN reasons.

good luck, and make sure to post pics of what you decide to go with

I love my Kimber. You can find a brand new one for under $1000 at many stores after taxes and dros you'll still have enough for a box or two of .45.

In my opinion, there's a lot of gray area at $1,200. You can spend a few hundred more and get a high-end production pistol, or spend a few hundred less and get a mid-range production pistol. IMO, I'd put a few dollars more towards a high-end production pistol.
