I wonder if City of SF or LA county would refuse to pursue the charges. C'mon a Glock 7, turn the safety on? C'mon. He shouldn't even be in custody of a firearm if he can't control it's discharge in an f'n amusement park. At lease there was a hearing or something. Wonder how that turned out..

County brushes off gun misfire at Schererville center

    July 19, 2007
By Piet Levy Post-Tribune staff writer

SCHERERVILLE -- It sounds like something out of a "Police Academy" movie.
Cook County correctional officer Jermaine Bell, 36, of Lynwood, Ill., was at the Schererville Golf and Fun Center with his son late Sunday when he took out his gun and accidentally fired it into the ground.

Schererville police responded to the scene at 10:11 p.m. Bell told them he was trying to put the safety on when he accidentally fired the weapon. Bell showed police his Cook County officer's badge, and said he was carrying a Glock 7 handgun.

But Cmdr. Randy Reno of the Schererville Police Department said a Glock doesn't have an external safety switch. And a Glock 7 isn't even a real gun. It's a fictitious, porcelain gun-type fabricated for the 1990 action movie "Die Hard 2."

Reno said Schererville police presented a case for criminal recklessness to the Lake County Prosecutor's office, which declined to file charges. Prosecutors deemed the case an accident, saying it failed to meet the criteria for the charge.

Reno said he was disappointed by their decision.

"Fortunately nobody was hurt," Reno said. "It was a very poor case of judgment on (Bell's) part."

Reno did say Bell will be cited for discharging a firearm within Schererville limits, a violation of a town ordinance.

Penny Mateck, spokeswoman for the Cook County Sheriff's Office, said that Bell has been a nighttime guard at the Cook County Jail in Chicago for more than two years.

Mateck said Bell was de-deputized Wednesday, pending an internal investigation.

A little bling can be fun...

I figured if I was going to get a big dumb gun I'd go all the way.

If you know how many guns you have... you don't have enough guns.

People need to remember that the same guys who wrote the 1st Amendment, also wrote the 2nd Amendment... and for the same exact reasons.

The opposite would probably be more feasible; I was just trying to match it as close as possible to an iPod (in my mind). All white would probably look better than the chrome/white combo.

If you duracoat a handgun with a red slide and a royal blue frame would that be illegal since it would look like a toy?

I think you will run into problems with red/orange.

Blue may not fly, it'll look too much like the Bluegun training replicas.

Do you guys know if I can contact someone that can help me out or you guys might know where exactly it says you can't paint a gun a certain color? I think I can get in trouble if I'm stopped with it on my way to the range or doing something stupid with it, but it will be a safe queen probably if its a G29 10mm with the custom finish.

I am pretty sure there is a legal thing that says it cannot be red or orange. More people will quote it.

Got half of it right. Personally I would really like to see a white Glock. It would look really futuristic, keep it monochrome IMO though. Maybe put one of those polished barrels in it.
