New glock 17

Well I recently took my new Glock 17 to the range and found out it shoots a little high, enough I have to aim low at 35 yards, didn't really test how many inches or anything fancy like that. How can I fix this? do I have to get aftermarket sights, I know u can lower, or get lower, the rear sights or get a larger front sight but I really don't want a larger front sight.....

Any suggestions?

Not to pile on, but unless you are shooting it from a rest I would have to agree.

Glock 17 sights are fixed. There is no elevation adjustment. Windage can be possible to be incorrect if the rear sight isn't centered, but I haven't seen one come out of the box not mounted properly.

If it is indeed a problem with your gun, you need to shoot it from a rest or sandbag to take the external variable (you, your grip, stance, trigger control, etc) to prove it beyond a doubt.

EDIT: if you can prove it, I'd be more inclined to think there is some problem with the way the barrel locks up or some other malfunction with the gun. I just don't think it is the sights to be honest.

I agree, chances are its you. This is not a dis in any way, it happens to the best of us at longer distances. Did you shoot it at shorter distances, like 7 or 10 yards.

I guess I have to test it more, maybe bench test w/ sandbags like suggested, never thought of how the barrel lock ups. Yes I did test at closer range and it still shoot high, not as much obviously.

How is your hold on your 7,10,15 yard targets? I would not be concerned about my hold on a 35 yard target if my poa/poi was on at 7/10/15 yards.

That's probably you as well, then gets magnified at longer distances, 35 yards is a stretch, outside of a trick shot, 25 is max for most. Technique is very important with pistol shooting, its much more challenging than shooting a rifle.

There are to many variables at play here, hopefully one of the pistol instructor members will can chime in. I suggest changing the title of the tread.

Bear in mind that if you shoot somebody at 35 yards you're gonna have a hard time convincing a DA it was self defense. A typical indicident will be between 0 - 10 yards. 15 yards being a stretch. So the real question is how do you shoot it from 0 - 15 yards?

Without seeing your stance, grip, sight picture and how you control the trigger, there is no way to tell. 35 yards is way, way to far out. Start at 3 yards, when you can make a one hole group, move out to 7 yards, and so on. Don't change your point of aim, just hold on the same spot, do not adjust on the fly. 99% of the time it's a new shooter with a new Glock.

OP- I have to agree with the above. It might be you and not the pistol.

Me- I am a good shot with my Glock 17. NOT because I am a good Marksman, because I practiced ALOT with the pistol for years. Like anything, it just takes practice.

I was having the same issue with my glock 20 when I got it. Slow down and focus on you trigger press. You may be jerking it and not knowing it. I was new to glocks and their trigger takes some getting use to.

Maybe he bought it for target practice as well. Not everything is "tactical".

The Glock 17 is designed from the ground up to be used specifically for "combat shooting". That is where it shines right out of the box.

Even for target shooting, 35 yards is an odd distance to train at.

Glocks are a paint in the a** to shoot. I shot mine for 4 months low left until I finally some how just got the right grip or something happened and i not shoot just low right or high right but not bad at all. Just take time let your hands learn the gun. About 1000 rounds in you'll learn your guns aiming point.
